Hi, could anyone give me any tips as to how I can cater on a budget for 50ish people.
Drink is sorted so its just the food. I do have Iceland Vouchers for £20 so that's going to help. What would you do?

Minimum would be bread and sausages. Some sauces such as tomato, brown, mayo and mustard would be nice. Salad's would be good too for a bit of balance but depending on the guests they may go uneaten.
If it's informal I'd ask the guests to bring their own choice of meat and you cook it for them....but still supply enough sausages for everyone and tell them that.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Pick up whatever burgers and sausages are on offer, rolls are fairly cheap fillers. Homemade coleslaw and potato salad can be done cheaply.
A friend of ours, got a couple of French baguettes and toasted slices of it on the grill, then dipped it in melted garlic butter.
If you can get skinless, boneless chicken thighs at a good price, you can open them up and cut into 3 or 4 strips, marinade them in yoghurt and curry powder or paste, then thread each bit on a wooden skewer. They don't take long to cook that way.Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame

Cous cous is a good one, people love that - it's on offer in tesco at the moment (ainslee harriott, 2 for £1), just have it on the table and people can pick at it. My MIL has nibbles on her BBQ table such as cheap doritos and cheesey balls so people can fill up on those.
Hot dog rolls/burger buns - could you possibly negotiate a price with a local baker? I'm sure they'd be pleased for the custom and would give you a good price for a big bulk buy? Keep an eye on promotions and freeze whatever you can like sausages, burgers, etc.0 -
Spend the vouchers in Iceland on their offers. If everyone eats meat think about a plate of food being a couple of burgers a couple of sausages and a couple of drumsticks and work a list from there. You could add some pork chops, some corn on the cobs and even potato waffles. If you are short on BBQ cooking space you can cook the food in the oven and then it just needs chargrilling.
Think about some vege sausages or some Vege burgers. Another thing enjoyed by all is halloumi on skewers with onions, courgettes, peppers.
Get a selection of rolls both for sausages and burgers. Perhaps offer some sauces, relishes, cheese slices and salad to build burgers.
At this time of year its always nice to do a big pan of new potatoes or mash mixed with spring onions.
Lidl have lots of packs of marinated meats both in the fridges and in the freezers.
I would also suggest getting extra burgers and keeping them frozen just in case you run out.
Have a great time.0 -
Vegetable skewers are really easy and cheap to do as well as baked potatoes! I'd quarter the potatoes and wrap them in foil with oil, fennel, garlic and herbs. Really tasty!
Large bowls of pasta salad or rice/cousous salad or a few home made quiches also go down a treat.0 -
What exactly is the budget? How much per head? 'A budget' doesn't really mean anything unless you can tell us the figures. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

A BBQ for 50 plus people for £50??
I don't think that is possible.. The food would be awful..
Why invite so many people with so little money ( sorry if that sounds rude - it's a genuine question)
Why not postpone it for a bit so you can save ?0
