Vodafone repair = con merchants

I think Vodafone should really change the firm that they send there customers phones to for repair, earlier in the week i had an interesting conversation with them about the repair of my iphone 5.

After using it 4 months it wont charge up at all, tried all different types of chargers & checked if any fluff dirt etc was in the charging port but nothing. It detects the lead but doesn't charge the battery up.

I take it back to Vodafone who agree that the phone is indeed faulty & will be repaired under warranty, 5 days later i get a call from there repair center telling me ( surprise surprise ) the repair IS chargeable £190 due to the damage to the SCREEN

After i conversation with the so called engineer ( mostly me trying to get him to explain to me how a charging fault can be possibly anything to do with the screen ) the answer i get is :- Its not but the phone has to leave here 100% fixed and because on your paperwork it says " slight mark on the top of the outer casing" it requires a new screen at the cost of £190.

BUNCH OF CON ARTISTS , got the phone back looks like new , no unsightly marks or damage to the screen take it into an apple store they replace the phone on the spot due to manufactures fault.

The screen is obviously the most common thing to break on the iphone & they just try & make as much as they can out of any repair . Avoid VODAFONE

My guess is that that so called 'engineer'rolleyes.gif would have done exactly the same and charged you £190 for the hard work of sending the phone to Apple.

AFAIK, Apple insist on doing all repairs under warranty themselves.

No they don't - they have a network of approved repairers. Which one yours goes to depends on the the agreement the retailer has.

A faulty battery may be the root cause, but a cracked screen can become unusable following it being prised away from the chassis (to get to the battery). An independent repairer will replace the battery for around £30, but will usually state if the screen breaks, you'll need to pay extra for this - otherwise they'll not touch it.

Pretty reasonable IMO, as they didn't break it in the first place.

You don't have to prise off the screen to get at the battery, though.
