I have just watched some youtube tutorials and now feel totally inadequate.

I now feel like a 5 year who raids her mothers makeup bag. It made me feel that I just slap it on and I am really crap at it.

Off to boots tomorrow to see what the ladies say at the No7 counter LOL!!!

I don't want to be high maintenance but feel I need to up my game. I never know how to apply it and often think I look silly when I have tried new things. And never know what colours to choose.

Any one else feel the same.

    Yours

    Calley

I am so with you on this one Calley! I went with my daughter a few weeks ago for my mother-of-the-bride outfit and a free make-up was included. This young assistant made me look at least 10 years younger and the look was so natural. I went straight out and bought an eyebrow pencil (first ever one) and new mascara to replace the one that was over a year old and lumpy! I bought some facial cleansing products from her too which have had dramatic results on my rosacea plagued skin. But they're a tad expensive so doubt i'll be able to buy more when they run out. Just read your first post, so off now to read the rest of your thread. :)

I too have been looking at u tube, particularly for eye make up for "the not so young" LOL I came across this website with some lovely videos and makeovers, although the models may be older than you and the OP, they work on the less is more principal and might be helpful http://www.lookfabulousforever.com/

With regard to facial cleansing, I have a sensitive eczema prone skin and use a lot of high end toiletries, but I am also very keen on Superdrug Brightening Hot cloth cleanser, they also do a Vitamin E one, one or another is often on half price offer and they both get very good reviews around the beauty blogs. Inexpensive cotton flannels of microfibre cloths work very well with them too. I cannot post links ATM, their website seems to be down.

MAC convert here, paid twenty five quid for a makeover and got twenty five credit to spend on products, LOVE their studio tech foundation and primer, well worth the money.

I'd say go cheaper on stuff like eyeshadow and lip gloss that you will interchange and I always buy magazines with free mascaras :money:

I like those BB creams instead of foundation, for a lighter coverage. I've even had one from the pound shop. I top it with a swirl of the mineral powder foundation if I'm having a spotty day.

My tip would be not to spend lots on mascara, just replace it very regularly. I don't wear it often, as I rub my eyes a lot (I do try not to) but even still, I replace every 3 months and start with a fresh one.

The trend seems to be so polished these days, with painted eyebrows and liquid liner, but I still think I suit (and prefer) the barely there look.

A nice blusher still brightens the face up no end.

Never worn liquid liner in my life, I'd look ridiculous, painting isn't my strong suit.

I do lightly pencil my barely plucked brows though but balance this out by usually applying eyeshadow with my finger...

It's the Elizabeth Arden Ceramide range, Mrs E. I bought the cleanser, toner, moisturiser and serum in a set for £60 on special offer (small sizes). Offer's finished now though :(

I always keep some of their eight hour cream - it really does work!
