I have just watched some youtube tutorials and now feel totally inadequate.

I now feel like a 5 year who raids her mothers makeup bag. It made me feel that I just slap it on and I am really crap at it.

Off to boots tomorrow to see what the ladies say at the No7 counter LOL!!!

I don't want to be high maintenance but feel I need to up my game. I never know how to apply it and often think I look silly when I have tried new things. And never know what colours to choose.

Any one else feel the same.

Yours

Calley

I wouldn't stress about it too much :p You have to remember that most of those girls either do makeup and/or tutorials for a living, or have had a lot of practise.

A good place to start would be one of the make up counters (though stay away from anyone who looks too orange), get a basic colour recommendation, then go home & experiment. Take photos if you have the time, to see what suits you best.
  • Benefit is a good makeup counter to go to for actual advice or MAC. I'm not a fan of no 7

    .

I think it's a general lack of confidence to be truthful.

The scary women on the make up counters LOL!!!! And yes they do scare me.

I'm the same, I get pretty depressed watching tutorials!!

One thing I have found is to go slowly. Perfect one thing at a time. Sometimes I can use foundation, concealer, mascara and a bit of bronzing powder and lipgloss, it looks great.

Other times I try too hard with the eyeliner and eyebrows and end up looking like a bl00dy idiot. I think it's the shock when I look in the mirror lol.

But when I first started wearing foundation (I really needed to) it was a shock and I thought I'd overdone it. I hadn't, I just wasn't used to it :o

One thing I don't like about the boots counter is a lot of the women that work there are wearing too much makeup. Hope I haven't offended anyone.

it always seemed to be the Clinique make-up women in my local Boots stores who appeared to be the most orangey with make-up ;).

We have Benefit and Urban Decay staff in our House of Fraser store who aren't scary, aren't caked in make-up, and are very helpful, even if you're just browsing. My DD spent some of her birthday money on some Urban Decay today, the sales assistant helped her choose the right product for her, and told her to come back anytime if she wanted some tips/a mini makeover with their (or her) products.
  • Clinique & No. 7 are possibly the worst brands to use, at least they are for me. I may aswell just use veg oil my face ends up that greasy.

Started using Clarins after a free facial at their counter and what a difference it has made!

I like the Clinique bronzer it's very light... But check the persons make up application before asking for advice. I watch Lisa Eldridge, she has loads of tips, starts slowly and has LOADS of tutorials on her site from everything on how to conceal stops to full glamour make up etc so you can watch n bold up slowly. Plus she is so lovely it's impossible not to love her and want to give it a go...

She has helped me feel better about make up and less terrified.. Be choosy about who n what you watch.

    Good luck
  • I found Boots very helpful - I'd run out of foundation, and had never been sure that it was the right colour anyway, so decided to go and ask for advice. She sorted my foundation out, and we got talking about eyeshadow and so on, and she showed me a few things. Very low key and unscary, and afterwards knowing that I'd go the right foundation meant I felt more confident to try other things.

I personally find the girls at my local benefit counter (lol it sounds like the job centre!) in boots are great for advice. They really take it slow with me and show me how to do something and encourage me to apply the product in front of them so they can help if neccessary. I love watching Tanya Burr etc. on Youtube but really am incapable of replicating it at home lol! The girls in boots help me a lot more. I still can't put eyeliner on my top lid though - I'm not so sure I'll ever be able to do it!
