Will Amex See My Higher Credit Limit on CapOne Card the Day It Increases?

My Capital One credit limit will be increasing next month. If I apply for Amex as soon as the limit is increased, will they be able to see it?

Is there a chance the data they retrieve about me from Experian will be showing my old, lower credit limit?

Very low chance that the credit file is updated that day. You'd be very unlucky.

Damn. Is there a specific day each month that they normally get updated? Last working day of the month?

Why do you want them to see the higher limit?

Because a higher limit is more attractive than a lower one. (current limit on this particular card is £500 and would probably be seen as a joke to them).

If they see a higher limit and accept you, it may cause them to offer you a lower limit than they might otherwise have done.

That's a fair point, but I have heard that in general a higher limit shows other lenders consider you more trustworthy. Also, the charge cards I am looking at applying for don't have written limits.

Why do you want a gold charge card? I cant see what it will offer you unless it is for an opening offer.

You can use any credit card like a charge card- that is what I do. I used to have amex green then plat then cent then plat again but 12 months ago dumped it and I don't miss it at all. I use a BA Amex credit card as a charge card and a Virgin Atlantic MBNA as another- both get more air miles than the plat amex did.

Did miss the hotel benefits but now I have a virtuoso agent and so far it has been better.

To get much of the travel insurance you have to charge to the card- which usually has a fee charged by the airline. Means the insurance ends up costing a fair bit.

    • 22,000 Avios for spending £2000 in 3 months (not too hard for me to do).
    • 2 avios/£1 on petrol and supermarket spend - few cards can offer that.
    • Free for the first year. I will drop to a fee-free card if I can't justify it for another year.
