Baby boys clothes

I'm asking out of genuine interest, I have trying to clear space and make a few pennies and have been selling or in the case of my sons clothes trying to sell them on the local fb site, there's no interest and it's not just the baby boys clothes I put up it's any that go up no one buys them!!

I know that the stuff I put up is in v good condition and that its not over priced, as I price my girls stuff the same and that sells, the latest bundle is 20+ items of 6-9 mth clothes which I'd like £10 for which isn't in my opinion excessive!!

Has anyone else found this?

Pity you're in the east midlands as I need 12m and older baby clothes!

I'd use ebay for them to be honest, my friends regularly buy a bundle from there but then boys clothes don't come up that much on facebook around here. (Reading).

I found it hard to sell 0-3 and 3-6m stuff, I assume as people are gifted a lot of this size. I found buying 6-9m pointless as he grew out of it too quick. Maybe this is common and that's why you're struggling?

The problem with facebook groups is that they just go down the list so quickly so often don't get seen. Keep bumping it up at times you think people with kids will be online!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

A friend of mine told me that people just don't want second hand baby clothes and she herself didn't want to buy anything second hand for her first baby.

Obviously not everyone shares this view but I've also seen bundles listed in eBay for tiny amounts and no bids. I think supply outstrips demand!

I don't agree with your friend, sulphate. Most of the baby clothes I bought myself were second hand, purely because of the cost. He was my first baby too.

To be fair though, I've also struggled selling boys clothes, so much so that I've done bundles and sold them on ebay for 99p :( (newly used stuff too, like stuff were were given as gifts)

I've never bought anything second hand for my two, but I had plenty of hand-me-downs given to me by friends and I've never turned my nose up at them. I have also passed on clothes to other friends who similarly have made use of them with their children (I've seen them being worn!). When I have a clear out of clothes that can't be given away for whatever reason, DH takes them to one of the places that pay you 50p/60p a kilo for them so at least we get something back.

Opposite for me - I don't think my son had a single new item of clothing bought by me under a year old! He had some given to him as presents, lots my mother had hung on to, and stuff passed on from mates / relatives. Babies don't wear clothes out, after all, they just grow out of them and lots of babies can happily wear the same stuff.

I agree with you and when I have a baby most of what I buy will be second hand!

But we are members of this forum after all. Other people are fussier.

My mum said that she bought everything second hand for me as well, some people are more "precious" about children these days.

At the end of the day it comes down to demand and supply. If there was a huge demand for second hand baby clothes they would all be selling quickly wouldn't they?

You may not agree with my friend's opinion but she attempted to sell her daughter's outgrown clothes, also with little luck.

I am expecting my first LO and I have to say that I haven't brought a single new item of clothing. The only new items we have are from family members. Personally I wouldn't spend the money on brand new clothing as babies are just not in it long enough to get the monies worth. I have brought a couple of bundles off of eBay like the ones you have been selling. Personally I prefer buying from there instead of Facebook pages as I can search a wider area and I always set it for collection only so I know I don't have to pay for postage and packing. Unfortunately I think that generally baby items tend not to hold their value. xx

My mother had 3 girls and then a boy, so my Bruv (and therefore, also my now 8 year old and my shortly-to-be-born baby boy) wore a fair few pink sleepsuits and babygros. After all, no 4 month old baby cares what (s)he is wearing, so long as it's comfortable, clean and dry!

It's not just about this forum, though, you see lots of people on the pregnancy and baby threads here at MSE buying massively expensive nursery furniture, clothes, all sorts.

  • It may just be that there are lots of girls and not many boys of that age in your area. Boys clothes go well in my local facebook group, and I'm selling boys clothes as small bundles regularly on ebay.
