Need to get a new Freview box as the old one 'went to see it's maker'. It was a cheap and poor quality one that did not last very long but outside of guarantee. Things have moved on a bit so could do with advice.
We are looking for a Freeview+ machine (or similar free to watch system) that will interface to current non HD TV (i.e. scart), have HD ability for when we next change the TV, simultaneously record up to 250hours programmes (twin tuner?) and hopefully play back older recorded videos (DVD Ram), own made and purchased videos (all standard DVD).
Reliability is of prime consideration as we don't want to waste more money!
Would those with USB ports enable the other recorded video playback function? Would it be better to bite the bullet and pay (I expect) a lot more for a new TV (smallish size only say 30").
Any help will be most appreciated.:)

Buy once and buy the best: Humax YouView is the way to go. It won't play DVD's though-just get a cheaper Blu-Ray for that.
PS: no-one is making consumer VHS machines any more, you'd need to buy seconhandNo free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks, Humax do seem to get good reports.
, sorry if I confused but not really interested in those any more. I was meaning other recorded (not on the PVR) videos such as DVDsno-one is making consumer VHS machines any more0 -
Agree YouView is the best you can get. But there are a few different models out now. You need this one, as it is a 2nd generation box and the latest and best performance available -

Though if you have a Richersounds outlet near you should get one from there with a five year warranty.0 -
That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Ah. Didn't spot that. And I see the OP has already identified the D2100 (above) is the one to go for. Bit of a waste of a post really... :cool:0

Not at all Visionman, all info gives a slightly different perspective!0

Just don't double post. Not regarded as good. And one of them may be deleted.
But heres a review of the box you are interested in and it is seriously impressive -

The user comments are a good read. And I have also yet to find another review that doesn't agree with the above.0 -
