Tv license - a question about "live Tv"

hi,
I have cancelled the tv license after reading in their website that if you watch catch up tv, and not live tv, you don't need a tv licence.
Now my question is about "live tv"
I understand that live tv means when a programme is seen when is being broadcast, for example a tennis match, the apprentice, etc. Now for example if I watch Friends in comedy central, will that be classed as live tv as well?
I think it would be, but a friend says if it is a re run it is not live, so I don't know for sure...
Thanks for any clarification I get :T

Yes, it will.
As it is broadcast means as the channel is broadcasting the programme. Whether the programme is a repeat or not doesn't matter.0 -
Yes of course, it's live TV, ie: being broadcasted on the channel at that moment. Anything on your TV apart from catch-up is live TV, even if the programme is old! lol0

Thanks guys, I guess it will be going back to dvds when I want to see Friends again, then

I got rid of my TV 2 years ago to avoid temptation (and save money too of course!). I can't say I have missed it!

You should still have a tv licence, even if you're watching on catch up, but personally, I think that the tv licence should be consigned to the history books. Personally, I very rarely watch BBC, as it's crap (IMO.) I only ever watch Doctor Who! I wouldn't care if I never watched BBC again.
I pay for a sky subscription, so it p*sses me off that I have to pay the licence fee too.
Have to say though, that hell will freeze over before I get rid of my telly.

You should still have a tv licence, even if you're watching on catch up, .
Care to explain why?It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Here we go again. You should still have a tv licence, even if you're watching on catch up,Exception: If you only watch catch-up services online, then you don’t need a licence. For example, you don’t need one to use BBC iPlayer, or ITV player, to catch up on programmes after they have been shown on TV.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Thanks for all the answers guys, it is my understanding that watching catch up tv , either on tv like Virgin for example or online after the programme has aired, does not require a tv licence
this is an extract from their website, do you understand the same?
A reminder of the law ----
The law states that you need to be covered by a TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes, on any device, as they're being shown on TV. This includes TVs, computers, mobile phones, games consoles, digital boxes and Blu-ray/DVD/VHS recorders.
You don't need a licence if you don't use any of these devices to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV - for example, if you use your TV only to watch DVDs or play video games, or you only watch ‘catch up’ services like BBC iPlayer or 4oD.0 -
As long as you are only watching "catch up" services, there is no need for a tv licence. That's why you get a message when accessing live tv on BBC Iplayer to tell you that you have to have a tv licence but not with stuff they store online after broadcast.
Not sure if you need one to record live tv and watch it on planner, but I'm guessing you would. I haven't had a tv licence for 3 years, as I only watch stuff on catch up. I get a reminder letter each year to check if I still don't need one, and every time I've called to explain the circumstances tv licencing have agreed I don't need one.0 -

Thanks for your answer. Do you watch your catch up on tv or computer?
I wonder if they see " catch up " online on the same basis as on the actual tv set?0
