Have an old desktop computer with some really important photos on have spent ages trying to solve how I can get them. Cannot get past blue screen do not want the computer just photos, would It not be a case of me taking hard drive out and connescting to another computer or laptop via is it a usb sata lead i really have no idea about all this. Could any infection be passed on from infected computer or can anyone advise me on how to solve this problem or roughly how much it would cost to have someone do this.

It will all depend on the reason for the blue screen, could be 101 reasons

You can always try the cable connection and see if you can access the drive from another PC to get your photos. Are you happy removing the drive from the old PC? Do this first before you buy the cable, to make sure you get the correct thing

If you are unsure on anything, as the photos are so important to you, I would suggest taking it to an independant PC shop and start by asking their advice. They have so many tricks they can call on that hey would have a much better chance at recovery

When you get everything back on a new PC, may I suggest you go and buy a small external hard drive and back up your photos and documents on a regular basis. I have been where you are and would never be without a backup again

As above, always worth trying to connect the hard drive to another PC to see if you can retrieve them and always have a back up.

Make sure that the PC that you are planning to transfer the photo files to, is protected by up-to-date Antivirus
You should have a spare SATA plug in the new PC - So it's just a case of opening it up and plugging it in - alternatively (probably easier and safer) - is to beg/steal or borrow an external USB adapter /caddy to save having to open the case of the new PC.
Scan the old drive first before copying files to the new PC !!

Drivers (if needed) themselves would be safe - they will be provided from another source than the old HDD !!
Besides - just scan them as any other file..
