Leaving Modem connected?

I always leave my modem connected as I do with my TV and sometimes wonder if this is safe.
Thank you.

    Safe in what respect?

    Fire safety?
    Internet/network security?
    Something else?

If it's good quality, UK bought, CE marked it should be fine. Check it and the power block are ventilated, not full of pet hair or under newspapers making them run hot to be on the safe side.

The biggest risk in the home is stuff people buy cheap from China. The chargers etc can be dreadful quality, not good enough to be legally saleable in the UK.

I have my router, voip box, and samknows (a specialist router) boxes on the floor behind a sofa and they are all on 24x7. They are designed for 24x7 usage. As some sort of safeguard against fire everything is on a couple of glass chopping boards. I've no idea if that would stop a fire or not but it's better than being on the carpet.

My fibre modem is on the (wood panelled) floor behind/under the sofa, and the Homehub4 is on a table next to a lamp. Both are connected and on 24/7.

Routers are designed to be left on 24/7. I asked a BT engineer about this a while ago, and he said that the majority of line speed complaints were by older people who, through habit, turned their routers off overnight. Apparently, the exchange registers the constant on/off as a fault with the system and throttles the connection to save bandwidth.

I'm no expert, that's just what I was told.

    Thank you.

Do you unplug your fridge freezer at night?

Its the same principle, well if anything your router is less likely to go pop and do as much damage as your freezer doing the same

the freezer needs to be on, the router doesn't, 7-10W x millions of households adds up to a lot of wasted electricity, about a Drax powerstations worth or a few quid on your annual electricity bill

The 'it will kill your internet speed' myth is wrong, the reverse could be true.

I'd struggle to switch my router off each night, it's in the attic
