Missed calls

Not sure if I should post here or the Techie board but here goes.
Does the iPhone not show if you have a missed call?
I am told you have to consciously interrogate the menu to check if there have been any.
My current (now very old) Nokia sends you a message that stays on screen until you deal with the information.
Why can't the iPhone do this?:o
Thanks.

My iPhone 5 definitely shows up a missed call on the lock screen along with contact name/ number if not in contact book. Always has..

My iPhone does not always show it. If i am listening to the radio for example i would not know that someone has called.

Just tried my iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.1, listening to Radio 2 via the BBC iPlayer Radio. When a call comes in, the radio fades out and the phone rings. If the caller drops the call, the radio fades up again.

However there is no indication of a missed call while the iPlayer is running, only a red number on the green "phone" button when you minimise the iPlayer App.

It works pretty much as I would expect it to...
  • Thank you all so much for your replies.
Just one further question - what exactly is a 'lock screen'? I have never owned an iPhone so am not familiar with the descriptive terminology.
    Thanks again:beer:

A "lock screen" is the opening screen, same as a Windows PC where you are asked for a password. You can set a PIN or password to stop others using your phone. Pressing the home button on the lower front of the screen temporarily shows the lock screen and indicates missed calls, text messages, e-mail, etc.

The PIN is usually a 4 digit number, but can be more or can be an alpha-numeric password.
