So I've broken my ankle:( and am in a temporary cast for 2 weeks so hubby reckons I am housebound until next check up/cast:eek:
Thankfully have loads of rubbish recorded on the telly and a box set dvd (thanks no.1 son for crimbo) and the books I didn'd read on holliday.
I'm really struggling with the crutches it was less painful hobbling around for 2 weeks before going to A & E this morning - yeah I know but I was surprised the lovely nurse didn't tell me off he just pointed out that many ladies of my age (;) are found with broken bones.
Tough old bird I am!
So what can I do please folks to stop me going crazy indoors - up a big flight of stairs.
Thank heavens for the interweb/radio/mse and stuff.:T:T
xx

Admittedly I've never done a leg in, but my previous periods of extended sick leave haven't been too problematic to me because it takes so bl**dy long to do anything when bits of you (head, arm) aren't working properly!
So, by the time I was awake, washed, dressed and breakfasted it would be lunchtime. Which only left an hour or so of mindless TV / MSE before DH was home ...

Hugs..
I have mobility difficulties which started when i still had stairs (moved to a bungalow) so understand some of what you are feeling.
Firstly be really careful with stairs.. make sure things aren't left on them as a cast can be hard to manouvre.. and use the hand rail.
Keeping occupied is difficult .. books, dvd's, intenet only last so long.. can you get someone to set you up a project.. as arms etc still ok maybe sorting photos into albums (either real or digital ones), as this is MSE you can check all your electricity tarifs etc. Do you do any crafts.. do you fancy learning anything new.. language, glass painting etc.
You don't have to be housebound.. the redcross loan wheelchairs for situations like this.. or you can buy one used cheap and sell it on..yes its embarrassing but if it gets you out the house that is worth it. You can add extra padding to crutches.. wrap socks round handles and tie in place.. otherwise i can imagine your hands will be sore.. takes a while to get used to things.. still struggle with my sticks.
Take time to write emails or even better letters to friends and family.. i get tremendous pleasure from receiving a letter in the post.. so you can spread some happiness and give yourself a boost.
Do you normally work? If so is there anything you can do from home? would you wnat to?
i hope it heals quickly0 -
Sorry to hear about your ankle, some little points which may help.
1.Prepare hubbies meals earlier thus allowing time to ensure they are cooked properly.
2.when vacuuming in living room approach hubbies armchair from the rear ensuring his view is unobscured of TV as it will take you longer to pass by.
3.As it will take you longer to bring hubby his beer practice carrying 2 tins in one hand.
4.Showertime can be particularly hazardous so when washing hubby down cover your ankle with a towel to keep it dry.
5.Reading material, bring a strong bag to the library with you to ensure you bring back an adequate choice of books for hubby.
6.Nocturnal gymnastics, ensure ankle cast does not foul any "equipment" being used by hubby in the course of his duties.:beer:0 -

Ouch!
I really feel for you. I fractured my wrist recently and was in a cast for six weeks. I can't walk unaided, which meant I couldn't get around much because I couldn't put any weight through my left wrist in order to use my stick.
Thank goodness it's now off :j:j
Hopefully you will find plenty to keep you occupied in the house but have you thought of hiring a wheelchair so that you can at least go out when the weather's nice? There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -

If your hands hurt, try cycling gloves, you can pick some up in Sports Direct cheaply. I use a mobility cane to get around and found that my hands hurt using it. No such problem with cycling gloves.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Apologies if my post appears to make no sense, I would have removed it but as it has now been quoted I will leave it.
