Does the UK have the most expensive driving license renewal in the EU?
Going by our passport renewal costs it would not surprise me.

I dont know, but we dont have the most expensive passport renewal costs so the answer may be no.

To be honest, the fact you have to replace it at all is a bloody scam.

I worked in blockbuster years before and on a membership sign up a guy came in with a paper license. It was so ancient that it was disintegrating along the fold lines.

The guy got angry when I took the license out of it's plastic wallet to open it out wide so I can get a full look at the license because opening it would have torn it a bit more.

he wanted me to approve his application by just looking at a qarter of the license. I told him I've never seen a paper license before and have no idea what this document is until i can see it in full.

Got an 04 plate Honda Jazz with 120k on the clock

I suspect the clutch is on the way out given the mileage, but wanted to check symptoms, since not entirely as expected.

Pulls away Ok in 1st, but when changing up a gear mainly to 2nd it will over rev for a 5 -10 seconds without adding any speed. - but not all the time

Tried positioning in front of wall and letting out the clutch and engine stalls every time - would have expected clutch to slip then and not stall ?

Any opinions on clutch or could it be something else ?

This is an attempt at the record of a post having as little to do with the previous dozen or more as possible?

Can you clarify that a bit, p'raps?
Is the "scam" that drivers should have to have some kind of immediate way of proving that they are the person who the licence belongs to?
Or is the "scam" that a photo of you taken at 17 might not be a good representation of you by the time you've reached 70?

I've still got my old green paper licence, can't see any reason to change it.

And for the few who DO still have paper licences - copy it before you send it off - as DVLA have a habit of accidentally losing categories when they issue the photocard ones!

If you do this, make sure you get it copied by someone who can certify it as a true copy.
Otherwise the DVLA can (correctly) potentially dispute the authenticity of the copy, as it's relatively easy to amend such copies with fairly common home equipment.

IIRC most magistrates courts will have someone who can do it (I'm not sure if there is a small charge), as I think can a lot of people who are members of a "Professional" body (solicitors, Doctors, Teachers, accountants), or people like Magistrates.

Same here - And I intend to keep it as long as I possibly can.

Last time an officer stopped me, he was most perplexed and insisted I needed to renew it. Checked after and got a resounding no you don't! So all is good then! :D
