Sky don't want my custom then?

My broadband and talk contract is up and, being the brilliant money saver that I am, I thought I'd try to get a good deal again.

Stupidly thought that ringing and asking them for a MAC code would be enough to be put through to the retentions department but no, was told I don't need a MAC code to move, thank you, have a nice day.

So that's that then!

Call them back and ask to speak to retentions, explain you're out of contract and then ask them what they can do to tempt you to stay

They are right, you don't need a MAC code. Any new provider would take over you line on the relevant day.

Instead of playing games, why not just call them and tell them you want to cancel. You'll be put through to 'cancellations' (or retentions) and given a deal. If you don;t get what you want, cancel. After you put the phone down to them you can go to your chosen new ISP and take up service, they will take over your line on the date they give and Robert is your mother's brother.

I've heard other people complain about companies making it a hassle to cancel anything. Sometimes they just can't win.

Indeed,,sky recently mislead me. Thats ok,anyone can make a mistake. My sky bb and calls and line rental one yr deal is soon to end. I emailed them and they said i need to give 30 days notice. I believe this isnt correct and once out of contract i just need to initiate the switch with another provider..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

The notice period is part of their Ts & Cs that everyone has to agree to.

You don't have to wait 31 days to leave though, your line can be taken over at any point after cancellation.

You'll still be billed for the 31 days notice period though.

Agreed, if I'm cancelling I just want them to accept it. I've just signed up with BT to transfer from TalkTalk and so far since Tuesday had one email, one letter and five phone calls from them. The calls I've simply ignored and there may have been more when I was out.
    It's someone else's fault.

You can believe what you like, however unfortunately if their T&Cs say you need to give 30 days then that's the case.

It is correct. It's pretty much a blanket condition across all telecommunication companies.
