recording tv programmes

Hi,
My mother has a sky box and records tv programmes to view later. The programmes are not sky channels, and I was wondering if she stop paying the subsciption would she still be able to record using the sky box, and would she still get the freeview channels.
She is paying £30 per month and she is a pensioner, but she likes to record heartbeat and morse.
I have tried to find the answer on the forum without success.
Many thanks for any help.
Please be kind as I am new to the forum.

If your mum stops subscribing to Sky then the recording and playback facility will be disabled.
No programmes Sky branded or otherwise will be able to be recorded, also those programmes previously recorded will not be able to be viewed.
I understand its possible to enable the facility by paying Sky £10/month.
£30 is not the minimum subscription , I'd suggest ringing up for a cheaper deal.
Full price for the original bundle is £21.50 / month.

She has to pay to record anything, and to view those recordings. She won't be able to watch them when she cancels.
I'd bet her Sky sub would cover MANY DVD boxsets of Morse and Heartbeat. A freeview recorder would let her record through the aerial without a subscription. A Freesat recorder could record from the Sky dish without a subscription.0 -
As above, probably best bet to sell Sky+ box for a couple of bob on eBay and then:
If she has broadband:

If not:

Cheaper than a years Sky subs, check channel listings here:

The Sky box will no longer be able to record without subscription, but it will provide access to all of the free-to-air channels.
What it boils down to is just how important are the recording features to the OP's Mother. Does she record and then actually watch her recordings or does she simply archive them for later?0 -
Thankyou all so much for the advice, I am going to look into asking sky to reduce the cost, if that fails, getting a freesat box.I love MSE, Thank you to all who share their journey and knowledge to reach their goals and live a good life on a small income.
