I grew up in a very stiff household, even the word "bum" was banned. I decided that when I became a parent I would be far more relaxed as long as my children understood respect, boundaries and appropriateness. There's no point shielding them from it, they hear everything and way more at school and I am quite flattered that my son feels comfortable enough to sit with me, even though we both have "OMG" moments at some things. Saying that, I refused to watch Ted with him, that was a step too far.

I can remember my parents taking myself and a friend to see Victoria Wood live and she sat playing the piano singing a song about masturbating, using every different word possible for it, the whole audience was in tears laughing, it truly was hilarious and I turned to my parents and they were sat there stony faced. That was more embarrassing than anything else.

I would have watched it with my just 14 year old if I felt inclined, I don't personally watch him other than on 8/10 Cats does Countdown ( I watch with my son and play along) but my son has some of his DVDs too. We were watching Tropic Thunder instead.

I thought you had to be 18+ to see these things live.

    I did not see it.

How did you find out the son was 13?

He picked him out of the audience and asked him his age, later in the show after talking with another audience member (a bloke) the chap asked him to get him a date, to which Jimmy replied something along the lines of "will a 13 year old boy do you?"

Dislike Jimmy Carr-he irritates me how he makes light of sexual innuendo about children and his 'jokes' about !!!!!philes etc. prat.

His laugh is another gripe....shame the strangulated noise isnt as a result of my hands being round his neck!:)

he's got that face you'd love to smack

Personally, I'd question the intelligence of anyone who pays to see Jimmy Carr - but that's just my opinion - which is of very little value to anyone other than me! Definitely not my cup of tea!

So you opinion is that anyone with different opinions to you is stupid. You must lead a very lonely life.

Hmmm...Jimmy Carr surprises a lot of people, I think...they see him on TV, 8/10 etc and he's all banter, political humour etc, the odd little bad taste thing, but not too bad...Then they turn up to see him live and it's all raping children, pretty bad language, projected pictures of genitalia...it certainly wasn't what I was expecting

    Same here.

I sat through the performance (it all got a bit "samey" and boring after a while - the first rape or !!!!! joke was a bit of a shock, but after about 50 similar jokes .....) but there were a few people in the audience who did not look happy and some who left early.

He can be funny on TV (with the restrictions), but I wouldn't go to see him live again.

I just wanted to add regarding being a prude quote, a group of us went to see the circus of horrors and a 15 year old came with us, a few bare breasts and a midget with a Henry Hoover on his c o ck running round the stage, a very good show and the 15 year old loved it.

My husband with his parents use to see shows with all "the big stars" back in the day, the venue was one of the biggest in the south west and to start the family show would be a stripper, he says it was just the normal way shows were in those days.he did however feel embarrassed sitting with his parents at 14 watching a stripper.

Now the show last night the majority of jokes were ment to shock (a lot about incest, rape, disability , the C word) and I think my son would be more uncomfortable sitting there with me watching it probably than me letting him hear the jokes.

All funny ..... except when the subject of the funny is a 13 year old, sitting in a public place, televised..... it could give the kid issues for life about being made to look/feel like an idiot.

Don't see how that is Jimmy's fault though.

[cliche] I blame the parents [/cliche]
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

TV is where the money is so a lot of comediens have to clean up for TV to stand a chance of getting onto the things that pay, live stuff they can go back to their roots.

There are actualy a lot of very good lesser knowns on the circuit and great value at local comedy gigs, if you are looking for those that do longer sets(1hr) then look for the Edingburgh preview shows and comedy festivals.

There was nothing in the content of the show that a 13 year old boy wouldn't hear in the playground at his school.

Any of Carr's jokes from last night will be repeated in schools across the country today.

Furthermore it's an old show that has been up on Youtube for a long time.
