3k is quite often what I do through the week, especially if after work etc, as it's nice and short before tea! A couple of times I've managed under 20 mins, but many of them are 21 or 22 mins! They're training runs, it's fine! Good on you. 3k seems a nice distance. Mix up your distances a bit, see what suits you best. Some people will like a short fast run, others enjoy the challenge of hills, and others prefer to plod slowly and get the distance in.

I just do whatever I feel like at the time....so a bit of a mixture, but my shorter runs aren't really much faster!!

I've just done 10km (twice round local park which is handily marked out with various distances) in 1.12 which isn't amazing for normal people but was a PB for me! Yay!

I think it's amazing and I think I'm quite normal :rotfl:

Well I did 9km in 1h 5mins last week, so about the same pace as you and I found it hard, and you managed an extra km which I certainly couldn't lol. So I think that actually is quite amazing!

I think if we measure ourselves against people who run because they are good at it we will never be able to compete....so just try beat your own times and you are achieving lots!!!

:T to Lesley and Barbara on your pb's. I'd be made up with your times for those distances.

We had the Rock and Roll marathon in town today. I can't get my head around how people actually manage to run that far. I'd probably still be going now if I'd entered!

Aw, thanks. I've been running 2 1/2 years so you're not allowed to be as fast as me yet anyway haha :rotfl:

Marathons - phew, I know. 8k is manageable, 9k gives me sore knees. Wouldn't dream of trying more than 10k. I think when folk take to it a bit easier than us maybe they get hooked on the challenges (and move through them quicker too!!).

I'm keen to see your progress. Are you planning to run in Vegas? I don't think I'll be able to....too hot. We are staying at Platinum for 8 nights though and Howard Hughes Parkway is very close and lots of palm trees for shade. I think I'd die in the heat though!!

I second this, well done everyone!

I completed week 3 day 2 yesterday. I had reservations about doing it though as my knees were hurting after W3 D1, the three minute jog was a real killer. I decided I would drag myself out there though and even though I managed it my knees were still hurting and I had a bit of a disturbed night last night with the pain :(. Can anyone advise me on this? As you'll remember this is the first 'major' exercise I've done in a long time so is my body just creaking under the strain and I should keep plodding on or should I be taking it a bit easy? I think my technique probably isn't helping, I'm a bit heavy footed so I tried to rectify this and took it a bit easier yesterday. I'd rather carry on so I don't lose momentum but I've seen that week 4 is a bit of a jump in jog lengths which could be a struggle. All advice gratefully received :)

Anyone can run a marathon, as long as they commit to the training.

When you start to train for your first a marathon your perception of what is a long run differs vastly from what you think of a long run by the time you've completed your training. It's pretty common to hear people start to say things like "it's only a half", as they've been going well beyond half marathon distance regularly in training.

My first marathon I just wanted to complete. These days I get annoyed if I don't hit my target time.

I am planning to run whilst we're away so will be doing something in Vegas. We're in the Vdara so it may be on a treadmill as I'm not sure I want to be running up the strip. Could be fun trying to dodge the hungover people heading back from their night out though! We'll also be in Boulder halfway through the trip so will have my first experience of running at altitude which could be interesting.

You ladies are crazy to be talking about running in Vegas, whilst I admire your spirit the only spirit I want in Vegas is something in a novelty glass :p So jealous, love Vegas but haven't been for years.

Good news as the day has gone on is that my knees are feeling a bit better so I'm hopeful I will be alright to go out tomorrow. I'll just take it gently again.
