For a reallllly cheap meal there is also the classic Spaghetti con aglio e oglio (or something like that) which is literally spaghetti with garlic and olive oil (perhaps a bit of parsley for prettiness) and although basic it is indeed very tasty. Good for the day before payday anyway, although not the night before a hot date maybe0

My daughter and I love this recipe:
Pasta and Broccoli with Cheese
400g/14 oz penne or macaroni
1 red onion, chopped
250g/9 oz head broccoli, stalks chopped very small and florets halved
1 vegetable stock cube
1 tsp french or german mustard
200g pot half fat creme fraiche
150g/6 oz grated mature gruyere or cheddar
Sprinkle of thyme
Boil the onion and broccoli for 10 minutes in a large pan of boiling, salted water. Add the pasta and simmer for another 10 minutes, until the pasta is cooked how you like it. Reserve 400ml of the water and drain the rest. Put the pasta and broccoli mix into a serving dish and keep warm.
Put the reserved water back into the saucepan and dissolve the stock cube in it. Whisk in the mustard and creme fraiche and then season and add the thyme. Stir in the grated cheese on a low heat until melted. Pour this cheese sauce over the pasta and it is ready to serve. Yum!0 -
Our favourite is pasta with pesto, mozzarella, cherry toms and chicken.
Cook the pasta, mix in your desired quantity of pesto (homemade is yum!) then add as many halved cherry toms as you like. Once the pasta has cooled slightly, add and mix in, chopped mozzarella (about a 5p piece size) which should then start to go all gooey and lovely. Then add some cooked chicken pieces, or not if you are veggie!
Works brilliantly hot OR cold. We have taken it to BBQs and it goes down really well. Also very good comfort food when hot~!0 -
i like garlic fried in olive oil, with a couple of tins of spicy sardines (lidls are the best) a handful of chopped toms, all stirred into large bowl of spaghetti.0

Hello! Here's a sauce I made last night for my tea!
Used frylight (as am on a slimming world based diet!) and fried some chopped onion, mushrooms, chopped cherry toms (but could use any..I just had some to get rid of in the fridge!) and garlic for a few minutes. Added some passata, cumin and chilli powder, just add as much as you want...I always try it first and then add more as needed! Simmer for about 15 mins on a low heat and then spoon over or mix into pasta! It taste yummy and is quite spicy too if you like that sort of thing like I do!

I tried out a recipe on Gordon Ramsay's Fast Food book (was a birthday present) over the weekend. Thought I'd share in case anyone else is reading here for insipration.
Fry off some panchetta, add chestnut mushrooms and leeks, add to cooked pasta and stir in a couple of tbsp of creme fraiche. This was absolutely lovely and OH wants to make it again so it was def a thumbs up.Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -

I did one last night - cooked spaghetti, then I fried an onion(chopped), some choppped pepperoni and some diced ham til crispy. Beat a couple of eggs, stirred into the hot, drained pasta and stirred around a bit to cook the egg and then stirred in the ham mix. Serve with grated cheese.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Hi - another really easy (and tasty) one is just to mash some gorgonzola with a bit of cream and stir into hot pasta - shred some basil leaves on top for a really nice supper.0

I like pasta cooked and let go cold and mixed with chopped spring onions, tinned tuna, sweetcorn and dressed with a dash of lemon juice, salt and pepper and half extra light mayo and half light salad cream mixed together. It's something that the kids will eat too. We have it with garlic bread and I try and get them to eat some green salad with it but that's not so popular.Jane
