Samsung lc32c450

I got the above tv with my phone contract I think about 3 years ago. Tonight it's started turning itself off after 30 secs. I have seen online that possibly Samsung were repairing TVs with this fault out of warrenty? Any ideas?

If not is it worth a repair or new tv? Thanks

Just bumping this thread because coincidentally our 4 year old 32" Samsung C450 has started to switch itself on and off so I have an interest if anyone has an answer.:)

EDIT -Contacted Samsung on 01932454358 -the service agent denied that they had any problems due to faulty power board capacitors -she talked me thru a full reset followed by a firmware upgrade = after carrying this out I have left the set on and it hasn't suffered a reoccurence of the fault. Time will tell!!
She said that if it reoccurs I would need to contact the local Samsung repair centre - for a repair at my expense!!

Sounds logical to me, Samsung would be offering a free repair only if they admitted liability. A four year old set is not covered by their warranty unless you can show the fault was inherent from the time of purchase. To do this, you'd have to pay for an independent report which would only be refundable if the fault was found to be inherent.

Regardless, you say the "full re-set" has cured the problem!
  • We have recently managed to fix many of our monitors (Often Samsung) at work that just stopped working.
On viewing the main PCB it is amazing how often the same Electrolytic Capacitors have blown. Fairly easy to buy and fit.

So far (fingers firmly crossed!) the reset seems to have worked....but,yes, reading up in various forums, it appears that substandard or underrated capacitors are often to blame. On my model of TV I've been assured that the parts are readily available from Maplins for a couple of quid...now all I need is someone competent with a soldering iron!!:rotfl:
@moneyineptitude -seems to depend who you talk to at Samsung -there are sufficient reports on the net of "free" repairs being carried out on sets out of warranty to suggest that they have taken some responsibility for the capacitor failures....but the girl I talked to yesterday ,would have none of it!!:(

Unfortunately, Maplin does not stock the correct High reliability low-ESR capacitors. Use the wrong ones and you'll have to do the job again.

Samsung are in complete denial - although they are well aware that their capacitors are unsuitable.

Do not delay the replacement, otherwise the damage could be worse.

Cheers guys. Seems to have fixed itself for now. I'll roll the dice with Samsung come the time and see. Who knows may strike lucky :-P
