My 20 year old Worcester 350 combi boiler ignition problem.

For the past two days, the boiler won't fire up, first go. I have to keep turn the heating on and off before the burners light. During this time, there's a clicking sound coming from the boiler. When it eventually fires up the clicking noise stops and the boiler works perfectly well for the rest of the day, the burner ignites straight away whenever there is a demand for hot water. However the next morning the problem resurfaces.
I've had an engineer out and he is mystified by the problem but says that the boiler is so old, it might be worth considering getting a new one.
Any ideas what the problem maybe?

Maybe its a fan/pressure switch issue? Either way your engineer should be able to diagnose. Perhaps you need to get someone else?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

As above. new RGI before new boiler. What fault finding has he actually carried out, if any?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Its a great boiler but it is now obsolete so I'd be wary of how much cash to waste on it. I'd probably be starting around the gas valve but it depends what sort of clicking it is, if its a loud clicking its usually the ignition pcb or primary sensor. Ditto the above....decent fault finder required.0

Very little, I think he was more intent on flogging me a new one.
Last I turned the hot water on at 1 am and it worked perfectly well this morning.
Finding a gas engineer in my area is difficult, those I have contacted don't seem interested in trying to repair a boiler of that age.In memory of Chris Hyde #8670 -
I'd be looking at the divertor (mid postion) drayton valveI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

You're thinking of the 280.0 -

Try a search for 'Mike the boiler man' - he claims to specialise in repairing old boilers and is prepared to travel, although he charges for travelling time. I have no connection with him, haven't used him, but did find his website helpful when I was looking for a fix for my boiler.0
