Cooperative Energy

Options
Hi
Looking for some advice signed up for co-op energy fixed price contract about 3 months ago. Meant to be fixed until July 2015 and my initial welcome pack says as much. However got an email today saying that due to limited availability was going to end on 30th April 2014 and got 48 hours to choose my new tariff. Are they allowed to do that? Been trying all afternoon to get through to free phone number. My husband working away at moment and don't really understand all tariffs etc. Currently paying about 84 a month by direct debit for both gas and electric. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

I got the same email and tried to call them but their line was busy. Their CS numbers aren't recognised!

I'm assuming they messed up and sent the email out to the wrong customers. The contract says prices are fixed until July 2015 so, as far as I'm concerned, they're fixed until July 2015. If they suggest otherwise, they haven't got a leg to stand on.

I've been deeply unimpressed with Coop so far. Left the "big 6" because their customer service was diabolical, but Coop don't seem much better.
  • In short, no they can't cancel their own contract terms. Not unless there's something in their T&C that says they can (although in that case, it wouldn't be fixed until date, it would be fixed until they changed their minds... a different beast entirely.

Oddly enough, I've just checked their tariffs, and not only would they be more expensive for us, they'd insist on a DD too. That isn't happening, so they're not getting out business. We pay £20-25 a month for gas, and £30 a month for electricity. We also have a woodburner for heating... so not about to freeze... :)
  • Is it wrong to be pleased that it isn't just me???
I also switched to CoOp via MSE in December, and eventually the switch happened in March: to their Fixed July 15 tariff: clearly stated in the contract.
Thought everything was FINALLY sorted out, then got the same email today, saying I hadn't responded to a letter they had sent, and that unless I contacted them within 48 hours they would be switching me from my Fixed April 14 tariff(???) to a variable one.
I know from bitter experience, chasing my 'easy' switch over the past 4 months that trying to get through to their CS team is a joke: the phone just rings and rings without being answered. Have again tried all day to get through, and it doesn't even ring now, just engaged constantly.
The email says you can change your tariff online: you can't. In fact although my online profile is active I can find no information of my tariff anywhere. And the website is ridiculously slow too.
Have now emailed them and hope it gets answered. I am counting on them honouring the terms in the contract received in January, but I currently have no idea what tariff they are actually charging.
This wasn't quite what I had in mind when I joined the MSE Energy club, but can't find any way of providing feedback to warn others about CoOp...not sure I can face another switch

    Dear Co-operative Energy Customer

Today we sent you an email entitled “48 hours to secure your energy bills for the next 12 months”.

This was for those customers on a fixed rate tariff which ends on 30 April 2014. This was sent to you in error and we are very sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

    It was an error.
  • CoOp have just sent another email saying the first one was sent in error, and aimed at completely different customers...maybe they have left the Reverend Flowers in charge of the email server? Or they may have noticed that their phones had gone from permanently unanswered to permanently engaged. That's another 3 hours of my time thrown into the CoOp communication black hole.
I will wait with interest to see if I ever get an answer to my email...but I shan't hold my breath.
Avoid avoid avoid CoOp...I don't think I can swap until I at least have my first bill, not to mention the will to face another 4 month 'hassle-free' switch
  • Hi I have has same email and I have tried to contact them by phone but 2 of their number's aren't recognised. Managed to send email from my account,. Have just had a reply to say it was sent in error. :j
