  • Hello there DFWs!! It has been a very long time since I popped by. In my defence I do work in education and September is, well, hell!

    So, what's new?

September has been a fairly pricey month and I must admit to being fairly rubbish at sticking to my budget, especially for spending money and groceries. No excuses - a few occasions, but these were originally budgeted for, I just went WAY over... eg A meal out with me driving, so should have been about £20, turned in to an afternoon of laser tag (was dreading it, but AMAZING fun), pre dinner drinks, three course meal and wine, then cocktails (and a lift home)... so about a £70 outing. Need to get back in to the habit of not saying "yes" to everything just because I 'can'.

On the 'up side', it was my mostly my YNAB buffer that I'm building up that took the hit, rather than plonking it on credit cards/living off beans, so I'm about £100 behind schedule on that.

Have just had a £40 payout from OnePoll, which took about two months to build up (I wasn't as full-on with it as I could be (and am being at the moment) and couple of weeks to come through, so that will go back in the buffer pot. Plus I've got a few items that didn't sell at the car boot but thought I might stand a chance of selling on eBay rather than sending to the charity shop, that will hopefully sell at some point (loving not only the 20 free listings, but the 3 free re-sittings).

Final debt is going down by £60 a month, all on track. Have been using the Tesco credit card like a fiend, but instantly paying off each transaction, so my clubcard balance is looking very healthy, which will go towards 'the C word'.

Right, off to catch up on some diaries, be lovely to see how you're all doing. x

  • I need to start buying lottery tickets after I do a catch up post on here as something good financially always seems to follow.

Some post finally reached me from three addresses ago... £48.15 from HMRC as reimbursements for the over payment of tax on petrol mileage through work. I think I posted about this in mid-August, completing the P87 form, so that's fairly quick for the tax office!!!

Not sure why they sent it to an old address when all my contact info on the forms was for my current address, but, heigh-ho, it got to me anyway!

  • Oh happiness. Mobile bill day.

    Budget - £30. Bill - £16.46. :j

Part of this is due to the reduction in my cancelling my dongle (sounds painful!! ;) )and also because they didn't cancel it last month when I asked so have given me a credit to that amount as well.

Unfortunately it means my bill won't be this low next month, but it should be around £20 a month.

I love me a low mobile bill, I do... and I must keep chanting this when distracted by the lovely shininess of the new iPhone.

  • Not really related to MSE or DFW but I've just been told I have passed my BTEC in Social Media! :D

Started it a year ago when in my old job, and has been a struggle to finish my evidence portfolio whilst not doing it day to day.

Anyhoo, something else for the CV that might lead to bigger and better (paid) things!!

  • Well, the spare bed is made up with the comedy effect of two different height divans pushed together and a too narrow duvet, awaiting the arrival of my Mum and her husband as they make the 300 mile journey to come and see me.

Biggish shop last night at about £50, but would have been over £65 if I'd done it all at Tesco and not split it with Lidl. Plus, some of it will be stuff not needed to be bought in next month's grocery budget - loo roll, bleach, toothpaste and other such glamorous items.

Filling the time waiting for them by checking my work emails too often... Hoping our payslips will be put online today so I can see my new salary. The 1% pay rise kicks in this month, plus I stop paying my bus pass which I had last year. My rough estimations are I'll be about £40 a month better off, which is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

    I may take a nap.

  • Payslip available to view today. Am now £43 a month better off. Happy days.

Feel a little bad saving money due to somebody else's misfortune, but a mooch around town this morning saw the local cookware shop closing down. Is a fab shop, prices as good as online and always helpful and friendly. Very sad to see it go and for the ladies in the shop to be out of work... 10% of a new fish slice though. Aaaargh, guilt!

Plus, off to see 'An Audience with Roger Moore' tonight, which I bought the tickets for yonks ago with the last of the 'mad money' from the PPI claim. My Mum wants me to ask him why he's never been round for tea....
