Hi ShirePiskie
Just catching up with your diary and saw your query about switching from a HSBC current account to a First Direct current account. The guy I work with has just switched to First Direct this week but he was with Yorkshire Bank. I am with HSBC (OD £3,500 ) and he said that I couldn't switch to First Direct as I already had an account with the same group. He said he read this in the T&C's but I haven't checked myself so can't testify this to be correct but don't think he would have made it up.
Sorry to be a damp squib but thought you should know
Just phoned them to ask about the £125/£100 switching bonus, if I'd be eligible as a HSBC customer and they said so long as I'd never had a First Direct account before then I would.
By no means mean I'd be accepted. I'm sure, or even qualify to have the same OD facility (which I need short term). I'm just guessing, but would think this is going to be the main sticking point as by being where I am now the 'HSBC group' as a whole get more £££ out of me in OD interest and no switching bonus than if I was with First Direct.Debt 2008 - Approx £20k | April 2014 £6526 | 30 October 2015 DEBT FREE

Got my torture gear out and grilled him about where he'd seen this and asked him to show me where. It says somat about only being able to apply if you''ve not had a FIRST DIRECT bank acount before. He'd took that as being a HSBC one too as its part of the same group. Shame.... I always thought he was an intelligent guy.
So now I'm sat here feeling like a twit. I'm so sorry for passing on duff information but at least you've rung and found out from the people who know. Ive got a feeling he didn't want me to have the offer he'd got......spoilsport! But I somehow don't think they'd let me have a £3,500 overdraft anyway.
Anyway I wish you luck and hope you manage to get the OD you want and save some spondoolies. I'll keep popping in to see how you get on xMFIT #73 - Pay all mortgage off in 3 years[STRIKE] £46,400[/STRIKE]£34,295 PAID £12,1050 -
Make him sit in the corner with a dunce's hat on, seems fair!
I think it's a reasonable assumption to make, to be fair to him. In the old days of being a credit card tart I couldn't transfer a balance to another credit card held by the same group - back in the day when supermarket and other cards were actually 'owned' by a bank.Debt 2008 - Approx £20k | April 2014 £6526 | 30 October 2015 DEBT FREE

Booooo, trip to the supermarche last night for an aubergine ended up at nearly £20. However (sneakily avoiding 'but') I did get stuff for a barbecue on Sunday, bits to make up meals next week, beer for football watching and sandwich fillings for husband who is out on a course on Sunday. So if I hadn't spent it yesterday, I would have had to go back in. Now no reason to...

Today has been pretty damned perfect, so much so, I even have faith in the football team tonight.
Lazy mooching morning with husband and his daughter then an afternoon on the beach. Husband's daughter has recently learned to swim so after I got over the shock adjusting to the sea temperature we spent a couple of hours swimming about in the reflection of St Michael's Mount.
I'm covered in freckles, the shower is full of sand. The 'spare' sofa has been collected so I have a crisp £20 note in my possession.
Husband is dropping his daughter home in ten minutes and is under strict instructions to return with prosecco (out of today's sale).
Pretty damned perfect.
Hope you are all having a great day. We may be in our debt-holes, but some days they are a fantastic little sun-trap. :grouphug:Debt 2008 - Approx £20k | April 2014 £6526 | 30 October 2015 DEBT FREE

EEEEEK!
Well it wasn't a NSD today as HAD to buy a greasy breakfast from the work canteen after consuming my body weight (not insubstantial) in Pimms yesterday.
So as I was spending anyway thought would get underway with buying the husband's birthday present (not until October), so that's £200 spent in a few clicks!!! And that's not even half of it. This was all planned and budgeted for, so doesn't affect any DF or other plans. Need to order the other part of the present on payday so can take advantage of a cashback offer that's only on for the summer).
Paid for it on my Tesco CC and have straight away paid that amount off from my bank account so I get the points.
When I'm this organised, buying things in advance, I worry myself, and something goes wrong, but I've got plenty of time to get it sorted if there are any issues!Debt 2008 - Approx £20k | April 2014 £6526 | 30 October 2015 DEBT FREE
