T mobile data charging

I've posted before about mistakes in my billing from T mobile. I got my new bill yesterday and despite phoning and receiving assurances every month for the last two months my bill is still wrong. Time for a written complaint.

However as a side issue, my daughter has gone over her data allowance. She used to have 250 meg, I increased it at renewal to 500 but it looks like that still isn't enough. There is a change this month though, in that they are billing for the excess.

In the past she received a text message and they restricted her usage to browsing and emails until the limit was reset. There weren't any excess charges, just limited functionality.

They also seem to have changed the billing period. In the past data allowances were per calendar month. This time it is aligned with the bill date. That makes sense, but may well catch people out.

They changed the T&C a while back so they charge £1 a day every time you go over your allowance.

Join a network like Tesco or Three who allow account capping. That way you don't have to worry about massive bills or the risk of bill shock.

As ZhugeEX mentioned, swap to a network where you can set a usage cap, or better still one with unlimited data. 500 MB is very low, I've used 2 GB in the past 8 days... Just as well I have unlimited data.

I phoned them this morning and have been told the issues with my bill have been resolved. So some progress. The last couple of times I phoned I was told nothing could be done in time for my DD coming off - this time they said it can be.

500 meg is not a lot but it is generally enough. We all do quite a bit on wifi. I have several contracts, either cheap sim-only or on cashback schemes and T mobile have been pretty good over the years. It was disappointing they took a big turn for the worse just after I renewed!

My daughter is pretty responsible, but we didn't spot the change to £1 a day from the previous policy of limiting services available. It was as much or more my fault than hers. Alert set on her phone now, so all should be good.
