I like wallpaper stripping, exception woodchip. Vowed not to go down the wallpaper route after getting it all off but soon changed my ming, a feature wall makes a room less boring and cozy.

Not a pink fan either, recently looked house details on line every single room was pink even kitchen. Decided to stay put after all work done in my house plus estate agents now charge between 2 and 3% around here. So I would be downsizing just to pay them.

  • I totally agree with having a feature wall, although in my last house the feature walls were just painted a different colour. I like the wall vinyl's you can get nowadays that are a forest scene or a sunset over a beach. We'll have to see what we decide to do.

I decided to finish work at 1 today because it's been a busy week and I've worked hard. What with that and treating myself to a cheeky early morning fry up in the local spoons with a couple of work colleagues it's been a great Friday so far. I've just logged in and paid another £40 off CC1 as I now only have a week until pay day.

I've also realised that I should order a tank full of oil (central heating) this month as it's best to get in whilst the price per litre is cheap before the cold sets in and prices rise. That will cost me and my wife about £500 but should well and truly last us the winter.

Other than that I shall strip more wallpaper off the wall this afternoon before sitting down to a well deserved beer this evening.

Have a good weekend everyone.
  • Thought I'd check in just to read a few DFW diaries, update mine and browse around.

    I've had a productive weekend.
Yesterday I finished stripping the wallpaper in the master bedroom and have also removed the old underlay that must have been down at least 20 years. that was very satisfying. next stage will be to lightly sand the walls and fill a couple of cracks etc.

Today I've put up the tent, taken it down (to air it and make sure it's dry) and packed it away after our camping trip. I would have done it earlier in the week but we've had wet weather recently.
I've also put all the camping stuff in the loft out of the dining room which has pleased Mrs SouthernGuy. Whilst up there I found a box of old childrens books from my youth and also my old 00 model trains which I also had as a child.

I thought I'd try and sell the books to one of those places that buy your old books online but after scanning them all in they were only worth a total of 95p. :p Instead I shall just take them to the local book bank.

I'm going to list the old railway items on Facebook and will see if I can get any money from those. They are no good to me as I model a different scale now.

I've also listed some old tropical aquarium bits for sale on Facebook so I hope to get some money from them.

Other than that I filled the car full of various rubbish including bags of wallpaper and underlay plus a few bits from when I previously demolished the rotten summer house and did a tip run with Mrs SouthernGuy, It's nice to get rid of the junk... :)

Ahhh now to sit down and chill out for the evening.
  • Woohoo, your doing great and its good to see that your happy doing it..:j

Thanks wannabe credit free. I'm looking forward to signing the debt free roll of honour haha.

I've made a small payment of £20 off cc1 today but I reckon that will be it until I get paid on Friday unless the aquarium bits I sold on Facebook get collected tomorrow, if they do I will have another £40 to pay off. :)

I sold a couple of old train bits totalling about £20 after postage so that was good.
  • Wow what an 'interesting' day. Had to go into work early today. got in shower, turned it on and..... It made all the right noises but no water. :( Not what I wanted at 5am when I needed waking up lol.

Work was ok after that thank goodness although like I said, 'interesting'. - Trying to stay positive about work at the moment rather than let it continue to get me down.

Good news is that the aquarium bits were collected and paid for in cash so I've paid another £40 off CC1 now. Only £100 left on CC1 :)
Also, I've fixed the shower :) It had an airlock in the water supply, I have no idea how that happened as the water hasn't been turned off or anything... Oh well at least it's fixed.

    I hope everyone is well.

    Afternoon all,

I've had a great start to the bank holiday weekend. First thing I did this morning was to log into my bank account and confirm I had been paid. Then I instantly logged into CC1 account and sent a payment of £100. This means that CC1 is now.. PAID IN FULL :T :j Wahoo!!! I shall wait for my next statement to check that I don't owe anything and will then close the account.

Now I've just got the CC2 with a current balance of £5021 (the BIG one ) left to tackle. Thanks for all the support so far. :)

It feels so good to have completely paid off my loan and one of my credit cards.

I'm going away tomorrow morning til Monday afternoon which should be good. It should also be a low/no spend event except fuel costs.

I hope everyone has a good bank holiday weekend.

    :)

  • Good afternoon all, apologies for my absence.

A lot has changed since my last post. After my car gave me a bit of grief I finally caved and I have purchased a new one (used but new to me). I got a good price for my old car but I have had to take out a 36 month personal loan to fund the purchase (I got the best 4.0% apr rate available :) ).

I'm not going to list the new loan on here just yet as I want this to remain focused on what I see as the priority, clearing my historic credit card debt. Once the CC is cleared I shall overpay the loan to clear it quicker. The monthly payment still leaves me with funds left over to clear the CC, just not as quickly as planned.

The good news is the CC is under 5k thanks to the £60 monthly DD. :j

    I hope everyone is well.
