Dogs - worse than children!

Few hours ago was going to come on here for advice. Got an old Old English Sheepdog who seems to have suddenly got old. He's 11 and a half. He has been slower recently but today was completely listless and drooling (which he doesn't do normally). My daughter's home and we both tried to get him to stand up but he seemed very drowsy. Googled and thought he had a stroke or bloat.

Decided you would all tell me to go to the vet so that's what I did. He was like a different dog as soon as we arrived! Perky, nosing about, trying to pinch the toys off the shelves, saying hello to the nurses and receptionists.... When I told the vet I'd brought him in because of lethargy she was a bit incredulous... Couldn't find anything wrong but thinks his hips might be stiffening up so could have been feeling a bit of pain.

So £60 lighter and got some Metacam just in case. Still glad I went - even if they have me down as a hypochondriac by proxy! :rotfl:

Glad to hear he is fine x. Lol I remember TJ couldnt put any weight on his front legs so we phoned Vets and went ASAP. We had to carry him from the car. Sat in the waiting room with the little B£$%&*r on my knee, when off he jumps and goes for fusses from the staff, not a sign of poorly front legs. You do feel such a fool dont you, its a good job our Vets know us well
RIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. Always in our hearts xxx

Could it have been a transient ischaemic attack ?

When I described the behaviour of my old dog one day this is what the vet thinks it might have been (the minor stroke.)
He wouldn't come downstairs, didn't want his breakfast (unheard of, )walked along the road on bent paws (so bad we came straight back as I would have to carry him) and then only a few hours later was chasing a ball as if nothing had happened!

Glad to hear he is better now.

We paid £80 the other week to find out our 6 month old kitten had given herself dead legs after a fall

Glad it was nothing major but did feel a complete drama Queen running into the vets asking for help because me kitten wasn't walking only for her to walk along the vets table and try to jump on to the side.

Hope your dog feels a bit happier soon xx

This is a regular occurance for me.

I came home one day and one of the dogs was out and he hates cats. So I did a head count to make sure everyone was ok.

Couldn't find my little tabby Abby anywhere. Was walking the streets calling everything. Went back in found her in a drawer in one of the bedrooms.

I rushed her to the emergency vet as it was a Sunday because I thought the dog had hurt her as she was wheezing and having trouble breathing. Oh no she had eaten a bee and it had stung the roof of her mouth £175 later and she was released the next day:wall:

I never go to the doctor for myself.
I have to restrain myself from going to the vets with the slightest twinge with the dogs. I guess it's because they can't tell you so you play safe. Although in my defence, the previous two did have a lot of health issues so actually having a well dog comes a something of shock to the system.
Although I've also had a death's door mutt having a resurrection moment the minute we get into surgery. I reckon they do it for the treats they get while they're there.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Last January time I heard a loud bang from downstairs and found our newest addition Gizmo limping around. He wouldn't put any weight on his front leg and wouldn't let us touch it so I phoned the vets and got an appointment for him two hours later. When we took him in he was still limping, vet took him out of his box, put him on the floor and the little g*t started walking normally. The vet picked him up, moved his leg, looked at me and said "he's fine, nothing wrong with him at all. He's possibly landed funny when jumping but has walked it off" and sent us away. DH found it hilarious when I told him, the vet didn't charge us for the consultation thankfully.

I had a border collie many years ago and he was getting on in years, when I noticed that he sort of hung his head to one side and his whole body seemed to be slumping.

Quick dash off to the vets, yes, we'll see him straightaway.

Get there, God ( big name in small animal bones apparently) turns up in his surgical greens, looks at him for two minutes and says 'ear mites'.....:o:o:o

    crept out feeling very small.....:o

I took the last dog to the vets because he'd eaten a t-shirt and I'd been pulling it out of his bum! He then got really bad diarrhoea afterwards. The vet was concerned that the squits was because he had a blockage so they x-rayed him and found a "shadow" they suspected was part of the t-shirt. They opened him up and found......
gallons of diarrhoea and nothing else! The general consensus of opinion was that the t-shirt had passed through him but he'd eaten something else that had given him the squits. They kept him in for 2 days so that they had to deal with the mess and not me. £500 bill!
