Applications auto-update and waste data allowance

Help

I have a pay as you go £10 a month deal with 500meg data, which would be ample. But my apps keep updating, this is fine on Wifi, but outside it just wastes my data. Is there anyway to stop this? I cant use flight mode, as I would be unable to make calls / send texts.

Please help, this is so frustrating.

Phone is a 3year old Sony Xperia Neo

  • Open the play store go to settings and you'll see the update apps over wifi only setting.

You could also turn data off if you aren't using it (settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/ - turn off "use packet data" and "data roaming" - having data on and letting it keep syncing etc will chew data.
If you really must have data on all the time then go to Google Playstore, settings and check Auto-updates over wifi only (or turn off auto-updates altogether) you could also turn off notifications as well.
All these clever bits are using your data without your knowledge.

  • I use under 1mb a day with data on and sync on with a few Facebook messages.

I don't use Facebook, but it's preinstalled and I can't get rid of it. How can I stop it using data?

Depends what version of android you are running. If it's android 4. you can disable preinstalled apps ..... settings>apps>all then tap a app uninstall updates then tap disable.

Older versions it's something like settings>scroll to accounts then find Facebook and switch sync off
