Virgin Media Cancellation Fee

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone has experience with this?

I've recently moved house and upon trying to get my Virgin Media Fibre Optic Broadband installed was told that they cannot supply my new location with this service and that I had to cancel my contract.

The contract was an 18 month agreement and I was only about 10/11 months in so was then told I would be charged £122 for terminating.

This seems a little unfair as I did not want to cancel but was forced too.

Has anyone been through something similar or heard of this happening before? If Virgin Media have a clause in their contract preventing them from taking liability for this sort of thing are they not in breach of the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977???

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Thanks,
James

You were contracted at the house you lived in before.

    You moved house.

The contract you had was based around the house where you lived.

They still have a valid contract with you.

You owe them for the completion of that contract minimum term.

There is nothing unfair about it, you moved I am afraid - this caused the reason for you to cancel, this was within your control, and not caused by VM.

Look at any of the other threads on this topic-at least one or two every week. Your contract for service is at the existing address only. VM do not cover every property in the country (only around 60%), so if you choose to move to a non-cable area then you are in breach of contract and required to pay the ETC.
That was the contract you agreed.
