BT Broadband speed decline

Anyone else having these issues?

For over 2 weeks now speed has dropped to 2mbps on a GOOD day, paying for (upto) 16 with an estimate of 4 - 6.

Funny how this issue arose at more or less the same time as BT Infinity became available at my address...for an extra £10/mth... Is that just me being cynical?

Fault was reported and has been escalated to tier 2 resulting in visit by Openreach engineer (under threat of £130 charge if issue was my fault) who could find nothing wrong.

After speaking to Customer Services today was told the situation is unlikely to improve, basically - pay the extra for Infinity or lump it - or pay to get out of the remaining six months of contract left...

No wonder BT is top of the naffed off Customer polls!

Talk about being had by the short and curlies, peed off being ripped off left right and centre
Definitely not high maintenance! :D

If the OR engineer found nothing wrong then its your internal wiring that is usually at fault .Possibly the router or its settings .
Have you tested from the master socket .

Hi JJ, internal wiring, router and settings etc all been checked no probs at all and ok'd by the engineer, plugged into test socket no different...pretty much convinced BT know exactly what the problem is and that the new technology at the exchange has put the brakes on the old...copper wire from cabinet to home whether BB or fibre, but the line that could support upto 16mbps can now only support 3 - 4...hmm!

Did BT OR check your router line statistics? If you can post the results.
i.e. Down speed, line attenuation and noise margin. You'll need to log into your router.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Nothing physically changes when fibre is installed - you can have a maximum of 16Mb via your copper line, however your actual line would never have supported more than 4-6Mb by their estimate.

Sounds like the beginning of a line fault if you're starting to steadily lose speed.

Line fault nope on mine it was simply that the OR engineer had wired the MS wrong and two that checked it did not spot the obvious error .
When the slowest engineer in the firm ( so his boss says ) called he found it in 30 seconds .

How long since they completed the work for fibre on your local cabinet??
Not sure if its related but.......when the Openreach guys were working on my street cab. preparing for fibre my ADSL2+ speeds dropped from ~16Mb to 4Mb for over a week - they completed the initial works and after a few days my connection speed recovered to 16Mb. I assume that they were carrying out work which caused noise spikes randomly on the line back to the exchange causing the DSLAM (or whatever its now called!) to adjust my line speed downwards. When the cab goes "live" for fibre it will be interesting:( to see if the problem reoccurs.

I'd be delighted that fibre was available and switch to it.
