Bizzarre response from the OP re allegations of 'forum pollution'. I'm on giffgaff, but have no interest, nor derive any benefit, from hyping them up.
You asked for opinions on giffgaff, so don't them complain if the majority view is then contrary to your own. There is no evidence whatsoever that 02 somehow prioritise their own traffic over giffgaff.
What would be the point of a public forum if the only people who replied were those who were 'in sympathy' with your own view-which appears to be purely based on reading other forums?

I think I was the person who originally posted about the tiered system O2 employ for priority.

I can assure you what I said was 100% correct.

Does it make a difference in real life...? Not really. Overall its the same coverage and speed as O2.

It looks as if Lyca give free calls within network in much of Europe, US and Australia. Great for families on holiday or people with family/friends who live abroad,

All the Lyca bundles look much better value than GG (given you can often instant message for free instead of texting). Both GG and Lyca have unlimited calls and texts within network. Lyca can be very cheap to use abroad, whereas GG is very expensive.

£5 Lyca 100 mins, 100 texts, 50mb
£5 GG 60 minutes 300 texts, 20mb

£7.50 Lyca 150mins, 150 texts, 500mb
£7.50 GG 200 minutes, unlimited texts, 250mb

£10 Lyca 500 minutes, unlimited texts, 1GB
£10 GG 500 minutes unlimited texts, 1GB

£12 Lyca 1000 minutes, unlimited texts, 2GB

So why then would anyone choose GG over Lyca? Perhaps they might prefer the extra minutes and texts in the GG £7.50 bundle over the extra data in the Lyca bundle? But otherwise Lyca seems to win hands down even when the bundles match as in the £10 bundle due to the benefits of using Lyca abroad.

GG do offer generous payback for recruiting others, but the payback for answering questions on forums is derisory if you put in the time and effort to give sensible answers.

Is Giff Gaff any good?

In my personal experience No. They have too many outages and are a lower priority on the o2 network than o2 or tesco. Data outages or no throughput issues are pretty common.

My mum is very happy with them, but I wouldn't put up with the shonky service she gets.

Thanks for replying. That seems to be the consensus. Cheap but pretty nasty if anything ever goes wrong which it does.


People don't seem to like the mixed motivation of responders on the forum; they get money for replying so they just put up a lot of potted answers which are off the point and just frustrating.


I've gone with Tesco Mobile.

Then switch from EE or to a new EE plan.

If you port your old number into Lyca, then it won't be a "special number" and therefore no one can be charged extra for calling you.

AFAIK the issue was that some mobile networks charged extra for calls to numbers that originally came from Lyca.

If you want to use Lyca just port in a number from another network.
