Shalb, TalkTalk recently e-mailed customers advising of a price increase, have you had this e-mail?

If so you have a 30 days from being told about the price rise to leave penalty-free. You may be able to use this to get out of your contract etc

If you cannot get out of it legally due to the price increase, make an offer to the people who will be renting that they can have free internet/phone until your contract expires. Pay the ongoing cost until it expires and then terminate. They might appreciate 6 months+ of free internet/phone.

MardyBum, you are amazing. I clicked on the URL that you sent and subsequently phoned talktalk and have now left with no extra fees.
    Nice, helpful, friendly advice :)
I knew the obvious legal obligations but if there's a get out clause then of course (& I challenge anyone) I'll use it.
    Thanks again :):)

Glad you sorted it with no fee, but you were missing the point originally. You contracted at your current address for the minimum term, and since TT do not guarantee a service at every other UK adress, and certainly not overseas, then moving does not void your contract without penalty. Relocation is your choice, not theirs. Moving the service in the UK would have started you on a new minimum term.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
