Radiator behind a sofa?

We have had a skirting heater, as opposed to a radiator, behind our sofa for over 35years. No ill effects whatever.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
No one has explained why you should fit radiators under windows so let me. In a room the coldest bit is the window, even with double glazing. Hence if the window is on one wall and the radiator on another then you get draughts as the air in the room circulates between the cold window and the hot radiator. This makes the room more uncomfortable than if the radiator is near the window and so the air circulation local.
Also, would a leather sofa be happy next to radiator or would that dry out the leather? If you have a leather sofa of course.0 -
i would buy a vertical radiator.
We had similar issues in our old place so put in one of these on a short piece of interior wall. It is easy to locate these in awkward spots like alcoves ... ie. away from the sofa0 -
Bet they were expensive.0

surprisingly not that much more than your standard radiator of similar output. We were stuck for space so the little extra was worth it.0

We live in a very old house with solid stone walls. The radiator in the sitting room is behind the sofa on an internal wall and the room is warm. One advantage is that it is hidden from view.0

Yep, the exact thing I was on about in my earlier post. You can get some pretty cool looking ones too!0 -
]I've been advised by the builder that the most heat efficient place to put a radiator is on an internal wall. I cannot really put it under my windows anyway as they are almost ceiling to floor.
The only place the sofa looks 'normal' is against the internal wall, hence covering the radiator. Has anyone else had a sofa in front of their radiator, and did they feel this inhibited heat distribution from the radiator?
That is exactly the opposite we were told by our plumber when we built our house!
We did not want rads under the windows as we wanted floor length curtains and he was most put out when we asked him for them on the inside walls.
We had one of our sofas in front of a rad and it was nice, it made the sofa lovely and warm.0 -
Our sofa is in front of a radiator, the room gets lovely and warm still.0

We have our sofa in front of a large rad in the living room as that's the only way we liked it (alternative was to have the sofa under the window, too draughty!). Room is still the warmest in the house, the sofa is about 6 inches in front of it for circulation0
