Haggling for a new moped - yes or no?

We're looking at buying our daughter her first moped, have researched it online and pretty much decided on a make and model, which seems to be for sale at a fairly set price of just under £1100.
How much leeway is there for haggling? Are we likely to be able to get a discount, or should we perhaps try for some freebies - we're probably going to buy from a local dealer who also sell clothing, helmets & other gear.
There's no point in financing this amount so we'll be paying cash.

Best dealing locally so check the local guy last and see if he can beat (match or get close to) any price you have been given. He might not be able to.0

£1100 brand new? Or used?
Its always worth asking for a discount they can only say no. Instead of askign for money off ask for some extras for free.
You get a £100 helmet for say £50 you got a good deal and they just didnt make any profit on it.
Locks, clothing etc. See what freebies they will offer.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
What make were you thinking of getting ?
£1000 doesn't sound a lot for a new one, if it's one of these Chinese things they get a very bad name for reliability and are worth buttons when the time comes to get rid of it.

How old is she? If she is just 16 then I would just hold out and get her a car and driving lessons when she is 17 and put the money towards that.
I had a ped when I was 16/17/18 and only used it to get to work 2 miles other side of town all on 30mph roads. Never really went anywhere else on it. I definitely wouldn't go far on one these days. Too many nutters on the road.
Also agree about the chinese rubbish, make sure it is Honda, Yamaha, Gilera or similar proper make.0 -
Would have thought it would be far better to get something like this

Cheaper, older, far less nickable and probably far less to insure0 -

Nearly 45yrs now since i got my first bike and while i have to agree there's a world of differnce in the roads. But i've always said that first year on the bike helped me when i started to learn to drive the car.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Looking at them you can see why a 16yr old would be so impressed, to have their own freedom on the road and at a price they could easily afford.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

We're looking at the Sym Symply 50 for £1099, it'll be used for her to ride to college in September - just the other side of town, plus I'll use it to run around town too. It's not actually "hers" as such, it'll be used by all of us - well not by my husband as he's got his Deauville. It's got pretty good reviews.0

Go for a second hand vespa, it will save you on insurance and will hold its price when you come to move it on.0
