Hello,
Will use Mr T vouchers - big journey/time away at end of week, weight/bulk paring is main reason as I am a bookhead in real life.

I'd only want to choose from the 1st 4, keep it basic, unless someone can make an irresistible case for the 5th:
http://www.tesco.com/direct/technology-gaming/kindle/cat24810009.cat?selected-sort-option=&catId=4294793400&sortBy=3

I am not interested in extras/book of face/social blahblah/ games etc.

Free book download advice will also be very welcome.

Thankyou for any help.

Depends what you want to use it for. If you are looking to purely use it to read books, then the 1st or 3rd options on that page are fine.

I had the first one previously and loved it, absolutely nothing wrong with it and very easy to use.

I now have the 3rd one along, purely because it disturbs my partner if I am reading at night with the bedside lamp on, so I use the light on the kindle.

There are lots of free/very cheap books available on Amazon. I just search 'free books' in the Kindle section of Amazon.

Thankyou both - have just spent ensuing time locating/fixing power cut.[Microwave finally dead of old age:>25yrs]

I don't want audio and video extras, so it looks as though the £109 model will be fine[have a dbl pts coupon to use up before I go, also CC+, so can factor in £apx8 in deals.]

...unless you think the £2 extra on the price-reduced Kindle Fire HD 7" 16GB WIFI 2013
    http://www.tesco.com/direct/kindle-fire-hd-7-16gb-wifi-2013/157-2058.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=157-2058#reviews

    - is really worthwhile.
I have little hands, don't want anything unwieldy. I've recently returned a motorola for a blackberry because of this, and dislike of touch screen[which I've read is present on both paperwhites in the reviews, but would cope, I suppose].

I nearly bought one for same trip back 2 yrs ago...have reached decision point this time, je pense:-)

I prefer the cheaper wifi non keyboard kindle to the paperlight.

I know the paperlight is more advanced with a light at the back but the touch screen to turn the page can be infuriating.

The button system on the original is far more natural and enjoyable.

Special thanks for that comment ukj - I thought I would love touchscreens and fly with them. So far, have loathed them.
Flying fingers syndrome causes me enough hassle on keyboard....

    Hi,

I have a Kindle 3g one (its a couple of years old now) but like no 1 but with a full keyboard, however I found the screen can be a bit temperamental I ended up having 3 of them as the screens kept breaking!!
I had (until it broke) a kindle fire which I loved, I found for me being able to change the back ground colouring (as well as the font and size which you can do on the ink display) change the brightness and able to read in the dark really useful.
Even just using it for reading and not for apps etc I found it easier than my original. I am dyslexic and love reading but sometimes find black on white difficult and straining to read.

The main down side is depending on how long your long journey is and how your travelling as the battery only lasts about 8/9 hours on the kindle fire. It lasts alot longer on the ink displays.

However saying all of that I've had a grand total of 5 kindles and they have all had something go wrong (beyond my control wrong) Amazon then PC world were great and changed straight away I know have an ASUS tablet with the kindle app.

You are able to search on amazon on the pc and get it sent via whisper to the devise its alot easier to find the free books on the main amazon website than on the kindle itself.

I don't know if that helps or not...
Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada

A couple of months ago I bought a Kindle paperwhite specifically to read on the very long flights I was going on. Including waiting for flights my journey was about 24 hours. I didn't read all the time but my Kindle didn't need charging during that time.
I considered a tablet but the battery wouldn't last long enough.

Just in, to find even more kind and thoughtful 1st-hand input. I really appreciate it from all of you.

Called in @2 Mr T's on way back this afternoon and had a good look at all those 1st line models. I've decided on the 6" paperwhite@£109. For me it should be just right - my little hand size, long battery life, backlight. The Dept Mgr also knows of probs I've had with other things in this Fens-y area, open farmland but dead spot often. In that I was eventually won over to sat nav. back in Jan[supplementary, not substitute in the order of things], so will this serve me for a particular purpose while I continue to love books.

I do thank all of you who took the time to reply. It's the only techie ? I've ever asked that hasn't included some sneery over-techie answer. Instead, it's felt like a friendly group of msers having a useful chat:-)

Have to order online to benefit from Boost/double-up voucher payment+those dbl pts on my CC+. It'll be for colllection on Thursday, which fits well for me, then head>NZ next day.
