Calling a UK mobile that is currently abroad?

My son is on holiday with has grandparents at the moment and they are in France - the only contact we have is through my FIL's mobile phone - registered in the UK. They have been calling us but thought it might be nice of us to call them (cheaply of course). Does any one know of a site that I can look at to call a UK mobile abroad cheaply?

the problem bill wise won't be for you, it will be for your FIL. To receive the call on the UK registered mobile in France will cost quite a bit. Which network are they on? Can they get to a landline, text you the number then you can use a cheap call provider to phone the French landline.
...and then the window licker said to me...

thanks for the response - looks like it won't save him any money by me phoning him then! Don't have a clue which network he is on - will just let them keep phoning us !!! That is optimum Money Saving Eh?

For him, incoming roaming calls are usually cheaper than outgoing. If he's on Vodafone or O2, there are cheap roaming options, which would be worth looking at if not already signed up

If the grandparents are on Vodafone, they can use Vodafone Passport to reduce the costs.

If you want more information it's available on the Passport Website

Your FIL could pick up a local PAYG SIM an swap out the expensive voda one.

it turns out that they are on Virgin PAYG (95 P per min to receive incoming calls - Yikes!) Will prob resort to texting more often than not - they actually live in Spain so when they get home I will call the house phone (for those of you who think I am neglecting my "bairn"!)

    Thanks for all the help
