Seems Mark has no sense of humour.

Steve. Just wait until your car wont start one day then you will think why didnt i buy 2 cheap cars like forgotmyname said. Then i would have at least one that will start. :)
Or have i owned way too many BL cars in the past where it was essential to have more than 1?

If you ask them to move the car and they refuse. Just hand them a card/note. When they say whats that. Say its your insurance details because your bound to accidently catch their car.

Cones maybe a PITA. People may keep moving them or nicking them. If teh neighbour had a sense of humour like me you may find them on your driveway each night so you have to keep moving them to get in and out.

Ahh, the irony. I get home and guess what - there's someone else (not the neighbours relative) been parked there for an hour and a half now actually over the white line.

I should put a sign up on my gates, appropriate to my neighbourhood, that says "these white lines are not for snorting" or something. That should get people's attention!

If they are not blocking your way on or off your driveway then there's nothing you can do apart from learn to drive, you don't own the road outside your house.

The white line is only advisory and holds no sway as long as the driveway isn't blocked

Thanks for the advice, really helpful of you - I would never have thought about learning to drive first. Now you've told me, everything is so much more simple. I can't believe I didn't think of that first before posting on this forum. It's only been a year since I've encountered this problem and tried to work around it. You're right. I'm just not learning fast enough. I will go and book some "lern 2 driv lessins 4 getin owt of ure drivs". I did see them advertised on tele, I owe you a debt of gratitude for helping me connect the dots.

Seriously though there's not a lot you can do apart from learn to live with it and learn to cope with getting out of an awkward spot in your car.

We had someone doing that once. When questioned she said it was to leave maximum parking space for other people; nothing deliberate or sinister at all and quite logical though not very considerate of us trying to get in and out of the driveway. But basically if they are not over the dropped curb then they are fine and you'll just have to either ask them to leave you a little more room or make do with the width of the driveway.

There's a lampost the other side, the driveway and dropped kerb is precisely one car width (I have to fold my wing mirrors in to get it in the drive otherwise it won't fit :D). If a car is over the white line/dropped kerb like in the photo above, I physically can't get the car out on to the road. If it's up against the line, like the neighbours relative, then it's extremely problematic and also dangerous as the road is up higher than my drive so I have to drive up an incline and the view is completely blocked by the parked car. I've had about three or four near misses this month edging out - I have to go straight ahead, onto the other side of the road, and then do a three pointer to get into the right position for a right turn (if the car is blocking the left side of my drive). To do a left turn if the parked car is on the left, I have to exit my drive doing the right three-pointer turn in the middle of the road as above, go about 0.5miles and then turn in the nearest side road, and come back.

The question was: can I do much about this? If the answer is 'no' or 'not much' that's okay. I'm only asking. If the answer is 'put some cones out' my question is: 'can I do that or will I get in trouble for causing an obstruction?'. Or is that about as likely as it would be for people to get in trouble for obstructing my driveway (i.e. not at all)?
