When my car was stolen i got replacement value.

The insurance company actually went through Autotrader to see what similar cars were going for.

I thought i would have a fight gettimg my money from them but it was painless.

This was Admiral. And i have nothing but praise for how they dealt with the whole thing.

    Research is your friend.

    More info the better.

High miles XF 2.7d seem to start at around £13.5k at Car Supermarkets all the way up to £16k at dealers.

Now might be a good time to add some money for the superior 3.0d version.

Either 240 or 275 version will be an improvement on your 2.7d.

I've had 2 claims with Admiral over the last 20 years. Both were as you describe and settled smoothly once I'd given evidence of the condition and history of the cars.

It's not often that the cheapest insurer also comes out the best for claims but that has been my experience with Admiral.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Insured with Saga, already got copies of similar spec cars from auto trader. Price seems to vary between 14k to 16k. My mileage was 54k about average I think. Still not had any letters but have already sent off documents. Been looking at cars and I am going for a complete change Hyandia ix35 2l 4x4 diesel.

Had an offer from the insurance company today, 14.4k. Abit more than I expected for a first offer. I explained that I thought the car was worth more, he disagreed. I now have to send off adverts that are similar to my car from the internet, these I had already printed off. Most of these are about 1k more than the offer. Must be worth a haggle as long as it does not drag on.

I'd be looking to settle at about £15k; the extra £400 would be more difficult to get from them.

After sending off like for like car ads I have now been offered 15.4k. All the ads were between 15.5k and 16.3k. I have accepted this offer, even though I was advised by friends to decline the first 2 offers and except the 3rd. Not sure if I could of got more but really need to get things sorted.

    Glad it's been resolved.

Bear in mind that the Ombudsman tends to regard adverts in Autotrader etc as being the price the seller is willing to start negotiating from so the advertised price would tend to be more than the cars worth.
