The wife had an accident in my car which was written off. Jag xf 2.7d luxury 09. Any one know how long it usually takes to receive an offer from the insurance company. Also do you normally get a low offer first. Got a car dealer friend to check price which was trade 14k retail 15.8k. 15.3k national average on autocar. Car was confirmed as a write off on Monday and not heard anything since. Need to start looking for a replacement but not sure what sum to expect.

You have done the right thing to start collecting prices for similar model/age/mileage. It helps to have ones local to you, maybe photocopied from local newspapers.
My experience is the insurance company make a low offer but when they see you have done your research and aren't just a civilian then the offer goes up.

Read this link a few times.

Hopefully your Insurers have not palmed you off onto a credit hire car and claims management company as it can take a lot longer for them to settle the claim if they have

Last accident I was involved with, I collected a bunch of adverts for the same models with similar spec, milage and condition, ready to counter the first offer, which came in 2.5k lower than what I wanted, I emailled a bunch of links and they upped their offer two days later, all was sorted out in 3 weeks.

Although I am still receiving ambulance chasing cold calls, they get really excited when I tell them the other 6 passengers were paralysed from the nose down.

    Who are your Insurers?

If they've not already asked for it, get your documents ready to send to them which will be MOT, service history, both sets of keys and log book.

They may ask to see a copy of your driving licence which will be the card and the paper counter foil
