New combi needed.
Fit's in same place as last
Needs bigger flue hole but on similar centres
So all thing in place, just needs switching over and certing, so how much to pay??
2nd scenario, boiler changed and ready to run, done by "amateur, non pro" in own home, who will check and certify? and at what cost ?

If you want to maintain the warranty on the new boiler a system flush may well be required, which makes it a larger job than a straight swap.0

Yes, I realise and would want that, I was just trying to get a feel of if there are registered guys who do "certify" and run up newly installed boilers, basically all fitted and wired, just the final gas connection to be made.
And yes, it would be from the warranty aspect and also as the boiler will hopefully still be installed when we eventually move.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

You will have trouble finding someone, I would never sign off someone else's workI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
We've just had that done, we are extremely lucky in that our son is a SE carpenter with good contacts, they all work together. The plumber hung the boiler, sorted water pipes etc. and has a Gas Safe person who connects the gas. He will only work with two plumbers, he just doesn't trust anyone else's work and won't put his name to it. His price was £160, I ended up paying £100

Yeah, get that, but I'm out to find someone that will, and can test and check and verify, any decent bloke should be able to do that.
The other side of the coin is that the trade want £800 to install or certify a boiler.#
That's 75% of the boiler price??????
I can get better odds anywhere on the net for that as a 20 to 1 outsider.
The safety aspect? Show me a gas safe guy who would stand his ground without insurance?
Sorry trades, homeowner talking, remember :money::money::money::money::money:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

The problem you will have is that a lot of the RGI's have had issues in the past with people they have done precisely what you are asking for, but then either something has gone wrong with the boiler ( happens all the time on fitting ) something is not right with existing system, wrong pipework etc and they then have to ask for more money, or they have issues with payment. It has been like this for many years. One of my fitters had an issue when he fitted a fire for my company. The boiler wouldn't relight and the owner blamed him for it. It went to small claims, even though all he did was switch gas off, then try and light boiler pilot on leaving.
A lot of the RGI's will only install something they supplied. Best thing would be asking around the local merchants, to see if they know of someone who will do it. They may put some restrictions in place before agreeing though. That is the problem of sourcing things like boilers, fires etc yourself. The onus always comes back on the fitter/person who commissioned it.0 -
gas appliances have to be fitted to the latest regs, very few of which are in the MI, so how as a "homeowner" are you going to know these regs ?I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Chaps all you are saying is totally valid and I won't argue with any of you, but £800 to fit a £1000 boiler in less than a day??????
I'm sorry, I don't how much legislation you have to abide by, but I'd bet my last penny I had to stick to more rules in my former employ. I never saw £800 per day.
The simple fact is we all have responsibilities, we are all culpable and can be held at fault. I don't see the reason for such charges.
I do still have a few personnel contacts, we'll see.
But will I pay £800 or fit it myself?
If I get a deal I'll post it up if I don't you won't here any more as you can guess the end result.
Sorry to the pro blokes, I have thanked you as I always do, but my moneysaving principles are too strong to pay more than I feel is fair.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

When I had my combi boiler replaced, it took two full days to do. This involved removing the old boiler, preparing surfaces and walls to accomodate the new boiler, fixing the boiler to the wall, flushing of the system, connecting the boiler to the existing system and gas, before finally testing and certifying the installation.
I think you might be strongly underestimating the value of a plumber's time - assuming 16 hours across two days, that's £40/hour. I'm not sure what plumbers charge per hour, but I bet it's not far away from that figure.0 -

Why bother?
Just leave it to the new owner to do.0
