Getting into Ireland by ferry

Can you get into Ireland without photographic i.d I don't want to pay for i.d for 1 trip also don't have proof of utility bill they suggest a number of identifications you can use but when it came to book the ferry it just said photo i.d to be used.Just wondering if anyone used something else other then utility bill or…

I have had to show ID...must be the dodgy looking sort. I was pulled to one side when I got of the Irish ferry at Pembroke Dock, and had to show some kind of ID. Whilst waiting in the queue the other side of the sea, had to show passport to guy to go from ferry queue to go into terminal building (nowt there, just the loos).
