We may have got one in the last 6 months but the council messed up and put the wrong priority date. It has taken us 9 months to correct the date. During that time 17 suitable houses have come up but we did not get any of them because our date was wrong.

Now it has been corrected it is clear our date is much earlier (two years being the smallest gap) than that of those housed. But we have had nothing from the council. They haven't apologised or anything.

They do not take any disabilities into account nor do they take into account that we have a child sleeping on the floor.
  • Done. Got a 3 bed house from the local council, cheap rent, also started buy to let business. Informed the council by writing, they replied we are still entitled to live in a council housing. Paying full rent but ultimately free as earning from BTL.

    Thanks a lot everyone.

Surprised you managed to get a BTL mortgage without already being a homeowner, it's a stipulation for many of them, and BTL deposit requirements are generally much higher than residential ones too?

Best of luck, it's not just easy money. I've just had our BTL flooded and I can't imagine having to deal with it from a distance - make sure you have solid LL insurance is my 2 pence!

So, to sum up, the OP, despite having savings etc., and despite telling the council he will be purchasing a BTL, has, although only thinking about this idea, since April, has been given a 3 bed house?

Now, why don't I believe it?

Oh, yeah, must be because I know the housing shortage in a London, know that hotels, travel lodges, private lets etc., are overflowing with people in temp accommodation, and no one, whatever the priority is getting sorted out that swiftly.....and, disability notwithstanding, ,no one gets offered a permanent social housing let, in a 3 bed house, that quick in London!

This whole thread is a wind up......:wall:

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

You did not read my previous posts. I never said we were in waiting list for 3 months.
Please read my posts before acusing it a wind up.
    Thank you.
  • Congratulations. Enjoy your home. Excellent idea to live rent free without housing benefit.
