Rebtel vs Skype or other apps ?

I've been doing some calculating and Rebtel seems to rip customers off with these lame package deals. Has anyone ever used Skype (not chat program) for making international calls?

I used Skype in the past to call my extended family in UK and Australia. Though the call quality is decent the subscription charges and unit call rates are a bit on the higher side. Recently as a part of some online promotion on Facebook I tried another app named Global Call. Luckily it had very attractive rates to offer to calls to UK and Australia and there was a noticeable difference in call quality over Skype. I guess sometimes you should look out for these less popular apps with fewer advertising gimmicks.

We use Voipfone both at home and away from home. Not the cheapest we ever found but certainly good value for where we need to regularly call and exceptionally call quality.

They dont have their own phone app for making calls but there are plenty of VOIP phone apps (eg Acrobits Softphone) that you can use with any SIP based VOIP provider inc Voipfone.

At home we have physical phones that connect to both internet and landline so can host 1 landline and 2 voip calls at the same time but as we only have 2 handsets it exceeds our needs

Thanks for the suggestion .I don't have a landline connection . Basically looking for an app which integrates well with Android and which has good value for money deals.

I like the sound of Online promotion on Facebook. Is it still on ? Does Global Call work well with Android device .Do they have good call rates to other countries as well ? I make most of my calls to my girlfriend who is studying in Phillipines.

Try Localphone or one of the many Dellmont VoIP brands, instead of going on about Globalcall, which is more than 4 times what you could be paying,

I suggest you check their website uglobalcall.com for detailed call rates to the country where you are planning to call.

I used Delmont stunt calls in the past. The calls are marked with too much latency and jitters .I don’t think Global Call is that expensive .The call rates are comparable to Delmont the reason I opted for Global Call in the first place.

I downloaded Global Call on my mobile but I guess at the moment they aren't having any promotion . Nevertheless I make most of my calls to Vietnam and the rates look pretty cheap just 6 cents !!:T

SIPgate are also worth a look, I use it on my mobile and have a free geographical landline number which I can use to make receive calls, PAYG no standing charges.
