That's been the case for a number of years. In fact there was a Grocer comparison carried out in 2008 that judged Aldi to be considerably more expensive than Tesco, largely because Aldi tended not to have value lines on offer. They've since introduced them.

But it's when you stray away form the value lines that you see the difference; e.g. Aldi charge 59p for a pack of frozen potato wedges. It's a £1 elsewhere, and double that if you want to go branded with McCain.... I can pay by credit card at Tesco but I can't at my local Lidl....
I think you'll now find that you can pay by credit card at Lidl.0 -
My wife and I experimented with Aldi. The staff were unnecessarily rude and my wife remarked that the customers smelt of wee. Mind you that was when they first opened, I am informed that the clientele are more upmarket but the rudeness persists. I will stick with Morrison's and Tesco taking advantage of offers and stocking up.0

You still can't pay by credit card at Aldi as I checked yesterday - that's one reason why I wouldn't go there for weekly shop but it's handy to stock up on some non-perishable essentials that are much cheaper.
Parking was a pain too, at Tesco there are plenty of available spaces but I had to wait, albeit only a few minutes, for a space at Aldi.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

Aldi do accept credit cards in Scotland. And in Berwick on Tweed. And some stores in Wales. There's a whole blinkin thread about it somewhere here on MSE. I have no idea why Aldi haven't made it uniform across the UK.0 -
The way we tackle the lack of choice at Lidl is to go to both Lidl and Sainsburys. I am not a mega fan of going to numerous shops to get my weekly shop but fortunately, in this instance, they are next door to each other. It is true that for some things Lidl is a lot cheaper, but for others the difference is inconsequential or in fact Sainsburys is cheaper (you try explaining to people that one - its the problem bowlhead99 outlined above).
Then we go to Tesco for things like Colmans mustard, brand name cereals etc. If we've got an £8 off an £80 shop then we may skip Aldi that week and stock up on non-perishables if we need to hit the £80 cut-off. We still scour the aisles for the big reductions when doing this, not just spend willy-nilly to get to £80.
A bit of a faff, but Aldi is about 200 yards away from Tesco and an easy stop off in the car.0 -

M&S finance chief, Alan Stewart has been dragged in two months early and starts today.
Will there be more skeletons in the cupboard and has their accounting errors happened in the past?
Shares touched 199p at opening and still seem on the downward spiral.
The only way to increase the share price is to increase sales and this can only be done by cutting prices which in turn cuts profits.
A right old mess.
