Ahh right so other than as Dun's says it can/does work out cheaper going through the wrapper people... (lol sorry), that's just the way it has to be done, is it.
I was getting there through some very useful links Dun's posted in another forum...
Soooo, err how does one go about finding and choosing between such organisations... The fund people advertise but they don't seem to...
Are http://www.h-l.co.uk and http://www.share.com/ such organisations?
This must do your head in., for the people who know.....

http://www.h-l.co.uk would definitely be the way to go for funds. They discount most/all of the initial charge and part of the annual management charge. To go direct would cost you more. It is the only way you can choose different funds from different companies though.
For shares it seems to be www.selftrade.co.uk
Of course this all assumes you want to go DIY.0 -

Halifax Sharebuilder is a good alternative for a complete newbie who is experimenting with share investing, as the dealing charges are very low - only 1.50 to buy. Ideal for anyone who wants to buy a small portfolio of shares. No ISA offer, but as basic rate taxpayers don't pay tax on dividends and have a massive capital gains tax allowance, the ISA doesn't offer a saving anyway for most people.Trying to keep it simple...0 -
but as basic rate taxpayers don't pay tax on dividends
I wish you would word that differently as it is not correct. Basic rate taxpayers have no further liability. It is not tax free.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
