As title says we will be cruising when the World Cup final is on. The cruise line isn't showing it and OH is beside himself:D is there anyway to watch it live on the iPad as we will have internet access? When we tried to watch sky go in Switzerland it recognised that we were outside the UK and wouldn't let us. Someone said it is to do with VP numbers???? Any help much appreciated by my beloved!

internet access on the cruise will cost $$$$$
It's crazy expensive0 -
If you want to use a UK based service they will check your IP address and work out that you're not in the UK. I have no idea which country the ships address range will appear to be in but I guess there's little chance of it being in the UK.
To get the UK services to work outside of the UK you would need to use a VPN or proxy service with an endpoint that has a UK based IP address. I wouldn't be surprised if you struggled to get TV streaming to work due to lack of bandwidth on the ship.
And as ringo says, I bet they charge by the MB and I bet the rates are extortionate. A football match will cost an arm and a leg, even if it does work.0 -
Why would he want to watch a couple of foreign teams having a kick about in a ramshackle stadium, I could understand it if he wanted to watch Engerland get knocked out in the first round.:D.
Does the boat have free passenger wifi, if so problem solved. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Poor access but not overly expensive on these cruise ships.
Doubt any decent streaming would be possible though.

Totally agree Penrhyn - personally I'll be at the pool with a nice long drink but being married to a sport fanatic he seems rather keen to watch it. The internet is free Ringo and Frugal Mike we can use their computers or ours however the sites he uses at the moment recognise that we aren't in the uk which is where the problem will arise as we will be in ( or should that be on) the Adriatic at the time. He can always look it up the next day :rotfl:

Which cruise company are you going with? This is a big money spinner for cruise lines so getting it free is unusual. Connectivity is slow as it is via satellite so don't imagine you will get the kind of speeds that enable you to stream video.
An alternative is to find a bar ashore and watch it there.0 -
a football fan booked a cruise during world cup duh.
internet is a non starter.0 -
With out talking about something which i think might be banned on this site and you do really have free wifi it might be possible to watch it with a delay and as the ship is not showing it he would not know the scores.0

No getmore4less the football fan's wifey booked the cruise for when the final was on - I didn't know Guv, honest
.
We are on Oceania and their deal included a free internet package Neil - not possible to watch it in a cafe as it's on at 9pmish and we will have already set sail. Some cruise lines are showing it but I checked with Oceania and they are not. It's not the end of the world - he will have to record it and avoid all people and media for the next 9 days :T
