Can i still leave Orange?

Hi there!

I took out an Orange contract for 24 months last July 2013. I am paying £32/per month (down from £36 as a sort of "discount" for being a loyal customer aka paying my bills on time) but finding it still a bit steep; due to my current circumstances i'm finding it of a challenge to pay for that amount as i don't use my phone that often.

I was told i can downgrade my tariff by June this year and i can't get a PAC code (or change to a SIM-only plan) by May 2015 which is still a long way off.

What could be my other options to this? What else can i ask Orange to convince them that my monthly is still high and that i want to leave/migrate?

Please advice. Thanks.

All long-term contracts come with some incentive - a new shiny phone or bigger allowances for the same price (compared to a similar 1-month contract). Flexibility comes at a cost. If you want it, you buy a phone outright and use it either on PAYG or on a short-term rolling contract. As simple as that.

So, you don't have any options really except begging Orange. Your current usage is absolutely irrelevant.

That said, Orange used to offer "right plan for you" 'service' to customers joined before Nov 2013. In light of the above, it never made any sense to me, but you can try scrutinizing the Terms and conditions and quoting this option when asking Orange to downgrade your tariff .

Re leaving, you have to pay the Early Termination Fee that is essentially the full cost of all remaining months, possibly with 1/6 discount.

I can try scrutinizing that definitely.

I'm thinking of just going on a SIM-monthly or 1-year contract. Good idea?

That's a good idea (but you can only consider doing that in 2015 when your contractual minimum term is completed).

Sell your flash handset on, and use the receipts from that to help you pay your monthly contract fees until you can downgrade or terminate.
Horange won't downgrade you before June, because that's when they start to make some profit after paying for your handset.
