Moving home and meter readings?

Hey everyone,

About a month ago now I moved back to my parents, and today a bill from Scottish Power arrived (electricity only). I told them a few days after my move via their website that I'd moved, they updated my correspondence address but I think they haven't registered that I no longer live there. They have it listed on their website that my next bill is in 3 months. I was unable to enter meter readings at the time because the website would tell me to log in, I'd log in (again) and the cycle would repeat.

Now I'm trying to enter my readings, but I have two questions:

Which reading do I give them, there's only one space on their "moving home" section and I have a "normal" and "low" energy meter reading.

Secondly, the bill I've been given now is only an estimate, how long until that gets updated once I give them the readings? What if someone else has moved into the house and so has been using electricity for the past month now.

Finally, not sure if Scottish Power operate outwith Scotland, but that's where I am, for any differences between there and the rest of the UK.

Thanks in advance everyone,

Chris

You must give them the readings from the moment you moved out and locked the door behind you for the last time.

As there seems to be some sort of problem it would be best to give them a ring.

If you want to make sure of getting through give them a call as early as possible ......as soon as the call centre opens around 8am or late around 9.45pm.......there's no point in ringing at busy times and ending up in a queue for hours.

How do their estimated readings compare with your own closing readings ?

From past experience it can take up to 6 weeks for an updated final bill so ring today to clear things up asap.
  • Hi,

their new web site is a catastrophe, it takes ages for it to update data.
