  • I have'nt managed to repeat the trick of getting the shower to work by running hot water first. It worked and then the shower went cold on me. Anyway, I have managed to make contact with the the plumber again and he is sending a corgi chappie tomorrow to fit a new 'microswitch to the hot water sensor'.. doesnt this sound right? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

  • Latest update. Corgi chap attended and made an adjustment to the microswitch as he said it didnt always make a connection and fire the boiler - I think thats what he said anyway. He also lubed everything, although the boiler had a full service in March and chap agreed it has been well maintained. This morning I jumped in the shower, it was lovely and hot - for 5 mins, then went cold, although I did get it running hot again by turning it off and on again. It has been suggested that it might be the diaghragm that needs changing. So I am going to have to call the corgi chappie again tomorrow. Incidently, I have purchased a new shower head and that has made no difference at all.

    They certainly DO!!!

Being an ex deep sea ruffy tuffy sailor I can tell you that when the ship rolls in heavy weather you either get full-on HOT or full-on COLD... switching from one to the other every few seconds...

    Hi,
We had a new shower a few months ago and couldn't get any water through at first. We solved the problem by taking the shower off the support, turning on the water, lowering it into the bath and then lifting it up again. Periodically we get the same problem so we do the same thing again. Our water pressure is also very low.

Hi, Maintaining the boiler won't have any bearing on the divertor valve which houses the diaphram.
Don't know anybody that strips down the valve to check its condition when servicing.

If you do have problems with the diverter valve, diaphrams are available for a lot of boilers. Don't let the plumber replace the whole valve at around £150-£300, when a simple rubber diaphram is available at around £15-£45.

I think you should look into changing your shower to an electric shower anyway. This will be more reliable in low pressure areas.

Are there any other appliances asking for water when you are in the shower ??
When you run a bath, does the boiler heat the water permanantly ?
Is it just the shower thats the problem ?
