Virgin error resulting in SPAM

I got an email from Virgin. my ISP , with some info about changes to the use of email addresses - this may or may not be a real email. I haven't opened it as I wasn't interested.
However, this has left the CC open to everyone they have sent it to- and now emails are coming thick and fast from everyone asking whether this is spam- real and comments like What the heck is going on.
Some people realising how far this is reaching are now advertising their businesses and my inbox is slowly filling up.....
