When receiving a call from Australia to Uk, via Viber (the other person in Australia calls), using 'their' wifi,

then does it cost the uk receiver any money? - they haven't make the call, they are just receiving..

Phone service is o2.

uk rx as the example, pays nothing if on their wifi. or if on 3g data, then it will be data from the freebie bundle.

Am mainly asking, is the Viber bill/payment put on the Caller only? (aus guy who calls, and Not the uk person who receives the call) ?

or the caller AND receiver both, have the bill?

The only "charges" would be the data consumed to carry the call.

Even though, they are NOT the ones who made the call ?
  • As Sparky said, if it's a Viber to Viber call then it comes out of your data allowance if your phone is connected via 3G or 4G, which is free provided you don't exceed your allowance. If you are on WiFi then it's free.

If the call is via Viber "Out" to your mobile, then the caller pays and it's free to you provided you aren't roaming overseas at the time.

Skype works in the same way.

It doesn't matter who makes the call with regard to your data useage. It is the same as listening to internet radio/TV on your phone, or watching YouTube, it uses data.

Viber to Viber (and Skype to Skype) use 3G or 4G data to carry the call (unless you are connected via WiFi), it's not the same as an ordinary voice call.

Any VoIP call uses data to send and receive. If you are on wifi or have a 3G/4G allowance there is no charge for the data, it comes out of the allowance.

I'm not sure why you would think that data would be free if you don't have wifi or an allowance.

If you don't want to use data it's probably best to stop using data services like Viber or Skype.
